Artificial Sweeteners

Recommended Posts

I'm used to using Sweet N Low in my tea, but my dietician doesn't recommend that. Their suggested sweeteners are Stevia and Just Like Sugar. Anyone have any experience with those? Which do you like better? Especially in tea?

I'm biased towards more natural products so stevia , Monkfruit or something in that vein. I will only use sucralose in coffee if nothing else is available outside and I forget to bring my own sweetener.

I absolutely hate artificial sweeteners. They taste horrible and most are way, way to sweet. I don't really like sweet beverages only slightly sweetened. Therefore, I will use honey very sparingly, if at all.

Stevia isn't bad once you get used to it. I still use splenda occassionally but overally sweet things bother me (the flavor I mean)- I can't handle anything too sweet (post op). So whichever I use, it is sparingly..... Buy a smallllll box of stevia and give it a try and if you are not post op yet, remember your tastes may change.

Yeah. You know, the dose makes the poison. :)

I'm a mid-hedonist, so on the very small times when I use AS, I use what works for the job. I still use SNL for iced tea. Love it. The pink packs. I'm a child of the 60s and 70s. :)

I use some SF Davinci and Torani.< /span>

I use some liquid stevia stuff.

I use Swerve and things like that on the few times I bake and need the bulk of a sweetener.

:)

I doubt very seriously if anyone will be able to write on my tombstone:

It Wot The Artificial Sweeteners Wot Dunn Her In

LOL. But having said that, I eat very cleanly with few packaged productized food. So my dose is by my own hand, not a manufacturer who hides that crap in every damn thing whether it's sweet or savory. Some savory foods DO NOT NEED ANY SWEETENER OF ANY KIND!!!! (I feel like I'm yelling. Am I? :D )

My personal trainer turned me off of artificial sweeteners years ago, citing multiple studies where they are astronomically sweeter than regular sugar, could cause other health issues, and contribute more to obesity than if you limit natural sugar. Not that the advice helped me much with my addiction to sugar, but it stuck with me and I have since resisted use of those artificial sweeteners with every Fiber of my being.

So, I mostly drink my tea without sugar. BUT, if I were to need a sweetener, I use stevia and have used agave Syrup. stevia has a slightly unusual taste, but it's not off-putting and much better than splenda/nutrasweet/sweet-n-low type sweeteners. I actually liked agave syrup much better. It was good for lots of things, not just drinks. I remember using it in my oatmeal, yummy with some cinnamon added.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
