angie_is_losing_it 90 Posted February 19, 2019 Okay so I have been a pretty loud snorer for a long time. Pretty much once I put on the lbs. Every now and then and I mean like maybe 2-4 times a year I would wake up gasping for air. I never had a sleep study done because we didn't have good insurance. Anyway... gastric sleeve surgery is March 11.. I did tell the doctor I snore but sort of omitted that I had times (not often mind you) of waking up gasping air. As of now it's been more than 6 or 7 months that it happened, maybe even longer. Do you think with being put under anesthesia that I should be concerned? Just looking for some insight. Thanks in advance!Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app
Briswife15 890 Posted February 19, 2019 I would definitely mention the past gasping for air even if it has been a while. You could be stopping breathing in your sleep and not be aware of it. I didn't feel like I was gasping, but stopped breathing many times an hour and didn't even know. Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
49Nash 103 Posted February 20, 2019 Even though it will suck if they make you do a sleep study and potentially delay the surgery I would. I have sleep apnea and was told after surgery some people have more trouble at night after anesthesia for several days so it’s important to use my machine. Not worth dying over

Not worth dying over That's what my Doctor said. You could stop breathing and not start again. A lot of people think of sleep apnea as just an annoyance but it can be dangerous. 1 Maria my turn reacted to this
NYJenn 1,463 Posted February 20, 2019 They didn’t send you for a sleep study as part of your pre-op????

I use to be the same way and i was givin the cpap machine to put at nite to sleep. Used it a couple of times n couldnt take it anymore. Too uncomfortable i couldnt sleep with it on. Anyway yes its very imp. I dont wake up gasping for air anymore but i do fall asleep while im awake n i snore. Yes, i fall asleep but i know everything thats going on around me while i snore. Strange thing..lol...This surgery will take away the sleep apnea, diabetes and high blood presure. Im due in may and starting to get nervous n cold feet. Good luckSent from my LGMS210 using BariatricPal mobile app

gabybab 696 Posted February 20, 2019 I have sleep apnea and was diagnosed over 1w years ago. I can't sleep without my machine. I wake up gasping for air. I'm not sure what my future holds with sleep apnea. I hope it goes away and/or lessens. I have terrible bags under my eyes caused from it. My suggestion to you is to run it by your Dr. Duribg surgery they will protect your airway by intubation. Maybe they can give you oxygen after surgery so as to not having to have a sleep study? But, I agree with everyone else, call your Dr tomorrow to find out. Good luck! My surgery is this coming Monday. 😝
