Tejee 32 Posted February 19, 2019 Hi guys, I started my pureed stage (stage 2 in post op) on Monday and I cannot keep anything down. If I take one bite of something that's a thicker consistency than yogurt, I get horrible abdominal spasms and feel as though I may throw up...as well as the feeling that it's stuck in my throat. I am so disheartened because I was looking forward to moving onto the next stage but i cant seem to do it without crying in pain.... to give you a clearer picture: I'll take a bite of the pureed food, wait, and then get a horrible abdominal spasm. Once that stops, it's a constant feeling of food being stuck in my throat or my stomach pushing the food back up. Did anyone else deal with this? I am not sure what to do. Any advice would be great. Thanks!Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app
Orchids&Dragons 9,047 Posted February 19, 2019 Moving from stage to stage is not on a regular timeline. Stick with yogurts and shakes for another week or two, then try again. You may just be a slow-healer. Give yourself time.
Ed_NW 684 Posted February 19, 2019 Make sure you fill out your profile completely so people on here can respond correctly. If you are a bypass patient, I can try and relate with your experiences but if you're a VSG patient I would step back and let the sleevers chime in. If you are like me (RNY) you have a small pouch that has a small dime size hole that allows food to travel from the pouch into the intestine. That hole will stretch over time and make it easier to consume the recommended amount of food. Sometimes scar tissue will form early on and you will have to go back to the surgeon for a procedure to open up the hole that allows food to exit the pouch and enter the intestine. You progress through the stages of food texture to gently create an obstruction free path for the food to travel down. There's a little discomfort involved in this process but if it becomes unbearable, you might have to go get it checked out.
