Congrats and good luck on your surgery!!!!!!
Soooo.... the gas pain was bad the first day right after coming out of anesthesia.... but the worst of it was two things: I started my period the morning of surgery and I am a HEAVY bleeder and 2 the pain from the inscisions was pretty much unbearable. I hardly walked at all while in the hospital. I had to use a commode to go to the bathroom and I couldn't even wipe myself I was in so much pain. It was an absolute nightmare. I cried for days because I could not believe what I had done and the pain was just so bad. I'm into week 3 and things are better. I can finally lay on my side without a lot of pain. I am desperate for real food. I'm sick to death of Protein Shakes. Overall SO FAR.. I would rate my experience a 3/4 out of 10.

It gets easier! Promise!

That pain sounds really rough though... have you had it all checked to make sure it's normal? Cos that sounds like more pain than expected for sure! I wasn't really in pain at all by the time I went home.

I am curious, did anyone’s doctor warn you about gas? I have only found out about this because of research and forums. It seems odd to me since this is a part of the surgery.

I was warned about the gas on the day of the pre-op visit and they told to walk around to avoid it. I'm 8 days post op now and I learned that if I move and keep sipping liquids during regular intervals it helps not get gassy.

My little couplet I put up for myself on the fridge:
Each Day, with the Dawn.....
More discomfort and pain is Gone.
Helped me remember the old Bible verse " This Too Shall Pass" & that it means pain is not forever! There is always more sunshine to life if you look for it!

My surgeon has said nothing about gas so far. I'm still pre-op (bypass on March 4), and I'm really glad I've learned about gas pain from this forum.

Mine said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about it and neither did the information about the surgery. It was a BIG surprise and really turns me off to laproscopic surgery. I had heard about bloat, but not about the massive pain on the right side and shoulder. Would like to kill my team over that.

The gas pain I felt when I had lapband wasn’t me needing to pass it was the gas they pumped in to make room and it works it’s way up into your shoulders- it was bad. The gas pain I had after 2 sections was me needing to pass it and more from anesthesia - it was nothing compared to the gastric surgery. I go back Friday to remove the lapband and revise to sleeve with ds

I didn’t have any gas pain. Not right after or months after like a lot of people. I’m less gassy now that before the surgery

AMEN ..it's like having a charlie horse that absolutely won't go away. I started massaging my diaphram last night to be able to fall asleep and it seems to have helped a bit.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
