I'm 30 days post surgery at this point..I have to say I am super depressed right now bc even though I am doing EVERYTHING I have been told to do to be a success at this, I am NEVER seeing movement on the scale! I am so over it to be honest..people have asked..well how much have you lost since surgery..and I have to look at them all dumb and say NOTHING! Then they get all judgy..well are you doing, this, this, or this??..think I was better off mentally before I did this.

I am scared this will happen to me too. I say just keep plugging along, eventually your body will have to give it up. I’m sorry you aren’t seeing the results you expected

What about inches? Have you lost inches? Have you been measuring yourself to see if you are having any success there?

I have no way to measure my inches right now. My husband says "you are wasting away!" But I dont see it! I havent changed clothing size and fits any looser etc. I feel like I am busting my a** with absolutely NO payoff and it's starting to really affect my mental health. I hate feeling so depressed and on edge all the time. I am so frustrated right now I feel like I spent all the $$$ and time on this surgery/process for nothing. I cant eat more than 5 bites of anything but have nothing to show for it. If I was making progress, even TINY progress, I wouldn't feel like a complete failure. Sorry for the Febbie Downer post, I just have no one to talk to about it to..IDK..just in a funk I guess..hopefully it will pass soon!

Have you had your surgery yet?? PLEASE dont let me make you doubt yourself or the benefits to having this done. Everyone I know that has had it has done fantastic..I am just NOT at the moment. Maybe one day soon it will all fall in to place for me as well.

My surgery is March 27th. You didn’t make me doubt anything. I think it’s helpful to hear that the weight doesn’t just drop off everyone. I can see how easy it would be to get frustrated. A year from now you will be a different person and these feelings will be a distant memory. Your husband deserves a gold star for being so supportive. I hope you get a loss soon!!!

Have you talked to your doctor about this. Maybe he/she could explain why you haven't lost anything. I hope you will find out why. I will pray for you. Keep your chin up.

You can still take measurements with string and ruler, old world style

Sorry to hear that you haven't lost any yet. I know how it is to feel depressed and on the edge-I was like that for approximately two weeks because I didn't have a scale around. My family was saying that I was losing weight but couldn't see it. When I did weigh myself, it was only a few pounds. It will be a process and it is different for everyone, just at times-when reading others lose so much quickly, it can get you down. Keep with the program, it will work. I would agree with talking to your medical team-maybe the dietitian-who may be able to shed some light on it.

I was really swollen and full of Fluid after my surgery, took 2-3 weeks before I saw any movement on the scale. It’s so frustrating, but allow your body time to heal

People loose at different rates. And you say you're doing everything you're supposed to, but maybe something needs tweeking.

You're still relatively new... are you getting in all of your Protein and Water? What about exercise? If you're exercising right now that may be too much with your caloric intake and your body is holding onto everything that you're consuming. A month out all I was doing was walking and house cleaning. Anything else would've been too much for the 400-500 calories I was eating.

Also, the mental aspect can be absolutely huge! Try to stay positive. If you are doing everything the way it should be, the weight will come off. Just have some patience.

You are only a month out and it says in your tracker you've lost 46 pounds. If you lost that weight before the surgery then you probably hit the 3 week stall early. You are going to lose weight. There are just going to be stalls along the way. As long as you are eating less then 1000 calories a day the weight will come off. There is no other way around it. Your body is just kicking up a fuss right now. Trust the process. It really does work.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
