Starting soft/pureed food, gas pain, and weight loss

Recommended Posts

As of yesterday, I can begin soft/pureed food. I had a bit of cottage cheese yesterday, and 2 oz. of tuna today. Within an hour or so of eating, I start getting terrible gas pains. Is this normal? I've been on liquid for 4 weeks and these 2 things are my first foods. Also, and I know this is not what I should be worried about since it's only a week since surgery, my weight has completely stalled. I read about people that have lost 20-30 lb in the first 2 weeks after surgery and that kind of frustrates me. I lost 19 lb. before surgery and have stayed the same since surgery. Am I being too impatient? (I know the answer is yes, but it helps to have others kick me in the butt and tell me to cool my jets!):biggrin1:

I have come realize that everyone is different. I am post op 9 days and have lost 1lb a day but I have alot of weight to lose as well. Depends on what you have to lose and you may still have alot of gas left in you. Not sure but I know that it is to early to be worrying about it.

So consider this the kick in !@@# you need.

Good Luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
