Hi everybody,

This is day four after getting banded and things are going well except that I am finding it very hard to eat everything that the Dr. prescribed on a daily level, Just wondering if anybody else has experienced the same thing, and if you did what did you do about it?:o

Well I havent been banded yet , so I'm not sure what to suggest. I just wanted to say congratulations on getting your band and I hope you recover quickly. Good luck!

I have a specific diet set out by the doctor, the first three days was just clear liquids and sugar free Jello because what I learned was that jello is a form of almost pure protien, on day four I was suppose to start on some milks and milk products like watered down yogurt, and some cream of what made with milk ( only about 2 tbs of each at a time). Day seven to 12 is more puree of veggies and white mets and so on. I just am not thirsty or hungry enough at all to even eat 1/4 of what I am supposed to. Tomorrow I go back to work so I hope that will make it better.

You're very swollen right now. Don't worry about trying to eat a certain amount at set times. Just a little here and there as you can tolerate it. Do try to get as much Water in as possible so you don't get dehydrated. When the swelling goes down, you'll probably be hungry again. Congratulations on getting your band!

Hello, I was banded on 1/5/05 and experienced exactly what you are feeling. I did'nt want to eat or even drink. I had allot of problems with gas from the laparoscopy so they made me feel even more full/uncomfortable. It will get better but as previously recommended, ensure your getting enough Water. Soon you'll feel those hunger pains and not feel like you are now will all the swelling....."this too shall pass!".

Welcome and good luck!!

I agree, the most important thing right now is to stay hydrated. Sometimes something warm, but not hot, like tea can help too.

Congratulations!!!!!

Hi Bigmom -- I experienced the same thing. Some bandsters get an appetite almost the minute they come out of surgery, and some of us have no interest in food for a couple of days or weeks. Marie offered good advice; there's no need to follow a fixed schedule, but keep yourself hydrated. Make sure that you're getting some Protein each day. I drank EAS Protein supplements for the first two weeks; you might find something similar at your grocery or health-food store.

Alas, the day will come when you'll marvel at the disappearance of your appetite. Meanwhile, congratulations on your band!

Hey there everyone. I am on my way to being banded. I have my first appointment with the surgeon on Feb 10th....and then starts the cycle. I was wondering if there is anything I can do now to prepare for the surgery? I was thinking afterwards I will have to drink a lot of Water, and right now I am not a big water person. Sooo I was thinking trying to increase the amount of water I drink for the next few days. Then trying something else...like picking out all the junk out of my diet......Then going back on slim fast...just so I don't miss the little things when I do get my surgery. Of course I don't have a surgical date as of yet...but I think if I can prepare myself just a little bit for the afterward, then I will get through recovery better.........Also, with the extra skin...Is there anything I can do to help my skin "bounce back" after the weight loss. I was thinking to slather my skin with Vitamin e oils/lotion to help the elastin work better...I don't have any clue what Im talking about, just any suggestions.....would be helpful. I really don't want to have reconstructive surgery after weight loss....I guess if there is a good time to have reconstructive surgery it would be after weight loss.....but still, if I can prevent it...Im gonna try like mad!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Porclndoll

Add a little crystal light to your Water OR a couple of squezzed lemon slices with a packet of equal or splenda, tastes just like lemonade..both work great for me. I also like to know how much Water I drink in a day so I keep a gallon of water with me all day long and my daily goal is to drink it all , somedays I do & somedays I dont but either way I know how much I have drank..I put a packet of crystal light in the entire gallon container and it sweetens it just enough.

I do not worry about the excess skin and right now Iam fortunate enough to not have hardly any so if I can get this last 25lbs off and still look like I do ..reconstructive surgery is not important to me. I just wil lbe happy to be 100 lbs lighter and healthier.

Good Luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
