Howdy!

I’ve been a lurker here for over 10 years. I have wanted this surgery and prayed for it. Through a divorce, job changes (which mean insurance changes), disabled son’s surgery, Lupus diagnosis and then prescribed steroids, I have wanted and needed this surgery. But it wasn’t until about 6 months ago when we moved to Florida that I realized it was actually a real possibility. And it was, and is. And it’s happening tomorrow, March 27th. I haven’t wanted to post anything because I honestly didn’t believe it would happen. Can it be real???

Hi! From a fellow Floridian. :) I was sleeved on the 20th. Congrats! Wishing you the speediest of recoveries and let us know how your doing!

My lap band revision to RNY is Friday the 29th of March. I just got approved yesterday and they are rushing me through because my insurance switches at the end of the month. So my head is spinning with excitement. I have had the band since 9/06. Tried to get a revision in 2016 when I had all kinds of complications but insurance wouldn’t approve it and the thought of gaining my weight back was a worse feeling. Fast forward to 2018, tried again and UHC denied me again. Moved to Kansas and got Aetna insurance and they approved me!! My surgeon knows my history and he is allowing me to bypass some of the stuff as I have been restricted for 13 years so it’s not completely new to me. I have had a slipped band for over a year gained about 45 pounds of my 136 pounds loss. Ready to get rid of the band pain. I hope I am making the right decision. It’s happening really fast. Starting weight before band in 2006 was 335, lowest weight in 2016 was 155 and my current weight is 195. Could use support if anyone out the has had revision. Thanks and good luck to all the Marchers out there.

Two weeks in and I feel terrible. It hurts to walk even drinking is the worse. I already visited the emergency room a week after surgery because I couldn’t take it anymore. Advice please be careful taking a shower. I have to do it sitting down since I’ve already passed out.

March 18th!

I am in my second week of full liquids! So looking forward to pureed foods. God is good! I have had an amazing recouperation. I ran a slow 4 miler in a Thursday and a 3 miler on a Friday. Rested Sat and Sunday (pre op liquid diet days). Had the bypass on a Monday and walked as much as I could post op. Upon getting home adjusted my bed so I was on a 45 degree angle. Again walking around the house. Days 3-5 walked to the end of the block...day 6 walked a slow 5k. I have dialed it back to 1 mile per day now. Struggling with Protein Shakes. The one I tolerate better is Thinkthin with Probiotics. Also found out about FAIRLIFE milk. 1 cup has 13 grams of Protein and is lactose free praise God!

The hospital have me a binder and I wore it at first for both support and protection. It is helpful to set a 15 minute alarm and keep snoozing it so you can keep drinking ;).

This surgery is a blessing! Stay positive, work hard and remember this is a process!

You are loved!

Oh I’m so sorry to hear you’re having these issues. You must have been dehydrated. Is pain still bad? I know I needed to take the pain meds for about 12 days after due to the incision pain. Hopefully they can give you something to calm down your stomach so you can start drinking your Water and Protein. Praying things get better for you quickly!

Day after surgery, on Clear Liquids now. 1 oz every thirty minutes. The broth they have here in the hospital is delicious. I really don't like Jello.

I am so sorry to hear about your experience and pain! It is so strange how different each body reacts to the surgery! I am exactly ONE week out ...I can drink anything and have absolutely ZERO pain or discomfort in my pouch. A couple of my incision sites are sore but it doesn't impede my day to day activity. I came back to work on Monday. I'm 52 years old and was really worried about recovery but so far so good!

Don't wait too long to go back to your surgeon if this continues! Big hug!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
