Sleeve -> MGB revision and a couple questions

Recommended Posts

I had a revision from Sleeve to MGB this last Tuesday (Feb 5'19). I was well warned that the weight loss would be slower, due to the fact that this was a revision, so have been pleasantly surprised by having lost 8lbs in the last week. I am still on clear fluids, and I know that is likely having a huge impact on my expedient weight loss, but it's sure great motivation.

Did anyone lose well on Clear Liquids, and continue to lose as a decent rate (slower, of course, but at more than 2lbs per week) after a revision? If so, do you have any tips or secrets to share about how to keep the weight loss going. I know it's going to come off, and if it ends up being slow, then so be it. I was mentally prepared for that before surgery, but if I can help keep it going faster, that would be great! My pony would appreciate it I'm sure lol.

Also, I do not feel any restriction with my clear fluids. Is that normal? I have read a lot of people saying they don't feel restriction after a revision, and am concerned about that. Are clear liquids a different beast, so it is likely that will follow through into the different stages.

Thanks for reading, and for any input!

I'm 6 weeks out, and didn't feel any restriction with liquids. In fact, I still don't feel much (or at least not as much as with sleeve) now with real foods. But follow the rules and the weight will still come off. I've lost 23 lbs in 6 weeks.

I don't really feel any restriction unless I try and eat a whole chicken in under 30 seconds or sommit (exaggeration for effect, I've never actually tried to eat a whole chicken in one sitting). Basically, I have to weigh out my food and use that as my measure to stop otherwise I could keep going. Liquids = no restriction at all. However, I do get lovely satiety about twenty minutes after eating Protein, so I know now to be patient and live through the "I wanna eat more now" feeling before satiety hits.

Thanks for your input. I am really hoping to NOT be a person who has very little restriction.

Do you think you need a revision with a 17 pound gain?

I don't think I understand your question "why or When the sleeve no longer works?" Some people may need revisions for various reasons. This does not mean all surgeries will need them.

Really one question and then one statement..I'm feeling kinda down about the weight gain. Some say,oh it's because you're comfortable but know it's me just not taking accountability for stuffing bad things in my mouth

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
