soccermom2 27 Posted February 11, 2019 I just started the process of getting approved for weight loss surgery last month. I went to my first diet class last month too. I have Anthem BCBS and am required to complete a 6 month diet program where I successfully lose weight. Tonight’s my 2nd diet class and weigh in. I weighed myself this morning and I’ve gained 5 pounds in a couple of days time. I’m starting my cycle and I always bloat like this beforehand. Will this gain keep me from getting approved? I’ve been told that I have to show I can lose weight- but what if I gain weight at one of my weigh ins? Thanks in advance for the replies!
GradyCat 3,695 Posted February 11, 2019 I guess that's why it's six months, to allow for fluctuations like yours and to show overall progress over a period of time. Good luck!
Levetha 3 Posted February 11, 2019 (edited) For me I gained while on the program and was told that I needed to show I can lose or stay at the same weight before moving forward, but I think it depends on your nutritionist I did gain 10 lbs in a month I was asked was I serious about losing weight moving forward I had to either lose a pound or more or not gain in order to move forward in the program I did lose 5 lbs the following month. As of March 7 I’ll be having my surgery I’m doing the sleeve. Edited February 11, 2019 by Levetha Misspelled words

Things may be different depending on your conditions and your surgeon's preferences, but my surgery coordinator said they only submit my initial weight from the first surgeon visit to insurance. So if I gain or lose it's truly not going to make a difference unless I lose too much and my BMI tanks or I gain out of control, which isn't happening. I don't think you have to worry about 5lb fluctuations from your period. That's to be expected for women. Now...if you walk in 20lbs heavier than the previous month, that's a cause for concern Edited February 11, 2019 by 🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺 1 Frustr8 reacted to this
Briswife15 890 Posted February 11, 2019 I have Anthem BCBS, too. I have been approved for surgery and slso had the 6 month physician supervised diet program. One month I gained like 10 lbs and lost it the following month. I still got approved, so don't worry, but don't gain 5 lbs every month!!Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app
