KHPE Flex POS (through work) covered?

Recommended Posts

I live in PA and have Keystone Health Plan East Flex POS (the cheapest plan) through work and wondering if anyone has experience, if it was covered, what requirements were needed etc. Awaiting my phone interview (this wed) and trying to figure out if anything would be covered (thinking sleeve at this time, if not the switch because I have to get my gallbladder removed anyways) BMI in the 40's, gallstones, and back pain with family hx of diabetes, high blood pressure and the sorts. My website doesn't mention anything for coverage or not coverage and they were closed when I tried to call. Just trying to figure it all out! Thanks!

Every insurance plan is required to supply you with a Summary of Benefits document. Normally it can be found online but can be difficult to find. Occasionally it is in print and mailed, but this has become a rarer thing nowadays.

A summary of benefits regarding your health insurance may have been given to you with hiring paperwork, or during an open enrollment period at your place of employment.

Certainly you can call, but you should be able to have this and know what you would be expected to pay for all tests, imaging studies, inpatient stays, etc.

I have been able to find basic paperwork that states like gyno, therapy, nutrition, well visits etc but doesnt mention weight loss when I googled it it it just mentioned it under things that need to be authorized

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
