When did you stop using shakes?

Recommended Posts

I am 9 months out and just had a shake for Breakfast (isopure vanilla no carb powder with fairlife milk-165 cal, 31g Protein, 3g carbs). I don't know when I'll stop, but they fill me up and help me get to my protein goals.

Like a poster above, I have been having a Protein Shake for breaksfast for years now, and have no plans to stop.

I will struggle to get the amounts of Protein in that we are recommended, as a vegeatrian. I always have.

My NUT said that because I have a sleeve and intact pyloric valve, a shake will sit in the stomach for a while and be filling in ways that it might not be for a bypass patient.

If after my surgery I could live off Protein Shakes and be satisfied I would. We only need fuel to motivate us and keep us moving so fuel is fuel the way I see it as long as you're getting your Protein then Vitamins :)

Y’all. In my desperation to find something other than a shake to supplement Protein, I ordered this. Tried it today with 8 oz of Fairlife milk and IT IS AWESOME. The packet has 15g of protein. The Fairlife milk has 12g. 27g total in an 8oz mug of yummy hot cocoa just cannot be beat. Just wanted to share for those if you who are sick to death of the monotony of Protein Shakes.

I RARELY consume shakes or Protein Bars, or anything other than my daily food to get in my Protein for the day. I focus on high quality meats and eggs, and have added in chickpeas and sunflower seeds. I also eat a lot of veggies every day... at work my lunches are always salads with nuts and seeds tossed in, and some form of protein like an egg or chicken.

I wanted to be weaned off of the "fake" stuff as early as possible, so I haven't consumed a shake since I entered soft foods. I have some of the bariatric food I've purchased in my drawer at work as well as my car for a quick fix if needed, but absolutely don't rely on it. Sometimes I have to be creative to get it all in in a day, but I'm hitting my markers consistently.

I haven’t had shakes since the week after surgery. I eat only real food, try to stay away from processed food. But, 6 months out from sleeve-I can eat anything I want. Just portion controlled

I stopped somewhere around the 12 week mark. I had a two week international trip and knew there was no way I could find something especially since anything dairy based caused me issues.

Honestly I struggled with them because of my intolerance to dairy (particularly whey and it’s counterparts) despite trying several styles. As a smoothie they’d take me so long to finish that’d it throw off my meal timing and Water intake.

I like to keep a couple vanilla or caramel shakes around to use as coffee creamer, but I stopped having them daily when my hunger returned and I found myself pushing the limits of my calorie intake.

I use them for on the run quick meals. I keep meal bars in my car for emergencies when I can’t get a meal in. Once I could hit my Protein goal with real food, I took them out of my diet. (instructed by my dietician)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
