I was looking in the store and a lot of the foods there has some sort of Pasta in it. Granted they look amazing, but i thought that pasta was bad after surgery. can we have these pasta dishes?

side note, the Protein Drink phase is brutal

Pasta is generally considered to be "bad" in that it tends to be a lot of calories relative to the nutrition that it provides, so it is something that we like to avoid when we are trying to lose weight, and concentrate on more nutritionally dense foods. While tolerances are quite variable and individual, it isn't something that is going to kill you - just not help your weight loss effort.

Sometimes things are unavoidable and we do the best that we can under the circumstances. My wife made a lasagna casserole thing for some group function when I was losing, and I just dished out a portion with as little pasta as I could conveniently avoid and didn't worry about it. Later on, when you are maintaining, it's just a matter of what fits within your calorie/nutrition budget - I made a lasagna for dinner tonight that just came out of the oven (though by making it ourselves, it's pretty rich in meat, cheese and vegetables vs. noodles relative to what one may get at the store which tends to be made more cheaply - more noodle than meat and cheese.)

It's not like Pasta is forbidden, it's just that there are better food choices with lower calories, more Protein, and fewer carbs that we're supposed to concentrate on and learn how to eat healthier as a new lifestyle.

I was really craving Pasta and bought one by Free to Eat at Kroger. They have multiple varieties but the one I got was Lentil, cauliflower & parsnip. Still has carbs from the legumes, but no simple flours. Decent amount of Protein too. I ate about 1 1/3 cup, which is less than one serving. I loved it. I plan to try the other flavors too.

I have heard that the Pasta and bread swell in the stomach. I would be afraid i would not eat more than a bite or two.. as it is now i can barely get in two ounces of Protein.

I havent bought anything from this site yet.. I am contemplating it, but i am trying to get a handle on what i am eating now. But i agree. but maybe those items are for the folks that have had surgery for a year out or so. I was told we can have Pasta and rice and bread but after a year.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
