New here and just had surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi, I’m new here and just had the gastric sleeve on Monday 2/4. I’m feeling great and pretty much back to normal. Just some slight pain where the pain pump was put in but nothing else. How was everyone else’s recovery? When did y’all start seeing significant weight loss?

I didn’t seem like I was losing until about 6 weeks out. The first month my body was adjusting to the shock of surgery and nothing really happened. After that I was pretty consistently losing 10 pounds a month.

Congratulations 💙 not everyone has such Quick smooth or pain free recovery (me) so be proud and amazed by your wonderful body!

I lost weight slowly but I learned it all adds up in the end if you stay the course.

Safe Journey 🎈

Congratulations! It's great you are having a pain free recovery. Even though you feel great, follow your doctor's advice and don't try to rush your recovery. Remember you just had surgery and you body (especially your stomach) needs time to heal. Trust your doctor, you will lose the weight in the time that is right for your body.

It took about a week for me to start to see the scale move and then the pounds just seemed to melt off the first month (lost 30 pounds in month one). Then no weight loss for two weeks as my body adjusted to the change. I have started loosing again, but only a few pounds per week.

You may show a loss at 2 weeks if you have lost your surgical overhydration Water weight, otherwise at a month or 6 weeks you should have a pleasant surprise coming! Everybody is different, but that is a good rule of thumb. And as you go further out there may be even more varience, I know an almost surgery day twin, lost only 38 pounds, then there are people like me who are in the 60s, same surgery , our bodies just reacted differently, she's lost less but went down 2 sizes, I've only gone down 1, I'm still a little envious but she started out at a different weight point than me, Its still okay, when all said and done!

I’ve lost roughly 40 lbs in 7 weeks . 32 since surgery . I dropped the 12lbs the 2 weeks after surgery but then it slowed a bit . Maybe 1-2 “lbs a week- there is a week 3 or 4 stall . Then it picks back up again .. just reached “onederland “💃🍾 stick to the program !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
