Harborgurl 27 Posted February 9, 2019 Does anyone gag/throw up a little when they brush their teeth? I do every time and Im getting the bypass next week and Im scared. Any suggestions on how to stop this? 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
Midwesterner2937 4 Posted February 9, 2019 I’m sorry I don’t have any suggestions but I do suffer from the same thing. I do notice that it only happens when I brush the inside of my teeth in the morning. If I brush them late morning or afternoon I don’t have any issues. The thought of not brushing my teeth first thing in the morning is grosser than dealing with trying to to gag tho! 1 1 Harborgurl and ProudGrammy reacted to this

Harborgurl 27 Posted February 9, 2019 Now that you mention it, it is not as bad in the afternoon for me as well. I think I can work around this. Thank you!!!
Samantha T 41 Posted February 9, 2019 For me it's the taste of the toothpaste that makes me gag! So I bend over the counter with my head practically in the sink to stop any from getting to far back in my mouth lolSent from my moto e5 plus using BariatricPal mobile app 1 Harborgurl reacted to this
KCgirl061 1,532 Posted February 9, 2019 Maybe try a toothbrush with a smaller head? Like a kid’s brush might help? 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this

MarinaGirl 609 Posted February 9, 2019 Have you tried different toothpaste brands or flavors? I wonder if you’re more susceptible to this issue depending on chemical ingredients (e.g. sodium laurel sulfate, fluoride) or if the toothpaste is foamy? 1 Harborgurl reacted to this
catwoman7 11,220 Posted February 9, 2019 I used to have this problem but haven't in years (since WAY before I had bypass surgery). I've used a SonicCare toothbrush for probably 6-8 years - so maybe that's made the difference (the brushes are pretty small)? I'm not sure - other than I never have that problem anymore. 1 Harborgurl reacted to this
Swanton_Bomb 522 Posted February 9, 2019 I was like this my whole life. Oddly enough, it improved tremendously after surgery, I have no idea why. 1 Harborgurl reacted to this

If I brush my teeth with no toothpaste (to see if that was the issue) it wasn’t as bad. Thanks for the idea!
