I've been struggling since starting soft foods. It takes me forever and a day to get in one bottle of Water and having to wait 30 minutes to eat something that may or may not come up is taking it's toll. I'd rather drink my meals at this point but my surgeon said no more Protein Shakes at this point and to try eating. It's frustrating because I know I'm dehydrated and getting 60-80 grams of Protein in seems all but impossible at this point without at least one shake. I'm going to call my surgeon and let him know my concerns but do y'all have any tips?

It takes a little while to get the hang of working the liquids in around food and keep Water at least 30 minutes away from meals. I'm 8 weeks post-op and just getting a good routine going. You could set a reminder on your FitBit or phone to sip some water every 15 minutes?

I was wondering: Do you actually measure your Water intake after surgery? I was told that I can expect to drink approximately a shot glass full of water at a time, but I'm not sure how many of those I need in a day--and whether II'll actually be able to drink enough in a day in such small amounts.

Thank you for the advice, I'm going to try watering down Protein Water. I haven't tried the reminders...didn't know that was an option on the FitBit. I use MyFitnessPal to track my water intake. My hospital gave me some cups with fl oz levels on them plus 1 oz cups. I also have some small 9 oz cups.

i keep 3 23.7 oz waters around me and thats my goal for the day. sip sip sip sip. im still on the shakes but im up to two Water bottles a day and the Protein Shakes finish me off to meet the required amount. just got to keep shipping. also i would consider a shot glass about 1 oz.

That sounds like a good plan, because I can't imagine measuring every drink I take. I'm a little stressed about the whole Water issue, because I drink a LOT of water now, and in huge gulps. It's going to be quite an adjustment.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
