No weight loss 11 days after bypass

Recommended Posts

Hello!
This post isn’t about me, but a dear friend who had bypass 11 days ago. She hasn’t lost a single pound yet and she is getting discouraged. She didn’t have any weight loss prior to her surgery since her BMI was just over 35. She has many pre-existing issues such as diabetes, fatty liver disease, heart issues, etc.

She seems to be getting her Protein and is following her post op diet. She is also drinking over 80 ounces of Water per day.

Any ideas??? Is this normal?

Is she following the diet to the letter? No sneaking food when nobody is around? Maybe join a gym or walking group to help activity.

If it continues go see the doctor

Well mate I suggest she starts walking not only will that burn calories it will help her body digest the food and get her heart pumping

walk walk walk walk walk walk walk walk. you got to walk. walking helps with weight loss and blood clots. also are they drinking Water WITH the food? they shouldnt be drinking water 30 minutes before, during, or after eating. Theres something not right if they didnt lose any weight 11 days after surgery. dont sneak Snacks, i have a feeling this might be an issue. i crave the living out of everything that shows up on tv. so i started walking during the commercials. Roughly the smaller stomach and the lack of eating anything has my diet to like 500 calories and a bunch of water, thats all i can get down.

Everyone is different, but I’m 10 days out, and have lost 18 lbs since my bypass (61 lbs total including the 43 lbs I lost pre op).

Probably the best idea for her is to log every single thing she is eating and drinking and then get in touch with her nutritionist.

My surgeon told me to walk an hour a day, or 10,000 steps. Also told us to get a step tracker. We also got a little book to log our food, Protein, calories, exercise, fluids - really helpful. I plan what to eat the night before. This gives me an absolute plan that could change a little but I know exactly what I am eating, how many calories, and how much protein I am getting. I also walk my 10,000 steps a day, and climb 10 flights of stairs a day.

Your friend needs to use this time to establish new lifestyle changes. If she doesn't, she won't lose the weight or will gain it all back when the appetite returns in the 2nd year, She needs to adopt an attitude of "I'M NEVER GOING BACK!" That kind of determination is what separates those who keep the weight off and those who don't. (Not that this is a totally blanket statement, but research shows that once cheating and compromise begins, weight comes back.)

Your friend needs to get moving and embrace the new lifestyle opportunity she has been given. Surgery is not a magic pill - it is only a tool, but we still have to do our part.

Another thing that I am surprised that nobody has brought up...she is not even 2 weeks post op.
This was major surgery and the body is still healing. Everybody heals differently.

Tell her to make sure she is getting her fluids and her Protein, journal everything that goes in her mouth, start walking and not to worry about things right away.

I'm 10 days post op, and I just now started to see some weight loss. I think that your body is still going through a big 'holy crap what are you doing to me?' and holding onto everything that you put into it until it finally realizes that the calorie intake isn't going to change. I also believe that everyone's body is different, and that this is especially true of diabetics. Tell her to not get discouraged, to keep doing what she's doing, and as everyone else said, to move as much as she can, even if that's just doing laps around the living room.

We all wish her the best!

All of the above and I would add, encourage her to join this site herself so we can support and love on her and let her know she’s not in this alone 👍🏻

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
