6 weeks post op - horrible pain - help please

Recommended Posts

I am six weeks post op and had my first fill 2 weeks ago. I have a 10cc band and have 4cc in at the moment. For the last week or so, I have been having the most intense pain near my diaphram/sternam. It gets so bad that it actually wakes me up from my sleep (hence why I am writing this at 3.15am). I also get it during the day, but it doesn't seem as intense - it's almost like a spasm feeling. It comes in waves - but the middle of the night seems to be the worst.

The pain was just so horrible that I thought my husband was going to have to take me to hospital. But now that I am up, the intensity of it has gone, now I just have a slight ache. In saying all this though the majority of the time that I don't have any pain at all.

I rang my surgeon on Tuesday, but I can't get into him for two weeks, and I just said to my husband that if this pain continues I want the band taken out.

Has anyone else had this type of pain at all? Any advise would be truly welcomed - I really don't want to have it removed - but the pain in the middle of the night is really horrible, and I didn't get it before my fill.

Thanks heaps - Rastis

Ring him again and let him know you simply cannot wait that long, there is no reason you should be in that much pain.

You're in my prayers, Keep us updated...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
