Going in for bypass coming out with a sleeve done

Recommended Posts

I had the physician assistant tell me there are cases that they have a hard time doing bypass because men usually carry their weight in their stomach and they are usually taller making it difficult to sometimes do the bypass. Is this something to be concerned with as when I spoke to my surgeon she did not mention this

I was approved for either one. I came out with the surgery I wanted (RNY). I followed the instructions to a T with minimal bad behavior. LOL. And no cheats in the 2week preop. She said it was an easy surgery.

If you haven't had abdominal surgery before and really follow the rules, it should theoretically be fine.

Well, there's something new to worry about that hadn't occurred to me before. 🙂 Did she mention how often that happens or the details of those cases? I think I will bring it up with my surgeon during me next meeting.

That's why in Australia at least the Dr put you on a preop diet of no liquids using Optifast Protein Shakes which will decrease the size of organs before surgery..

Mikeyy. They put me on a similar diet to Atkins or Keto. Eat as much meat and non starch veggies as I want. I cannot have any sugar fruit and any carbs outside the veggies. I cannot have dairy either

I used that diet on the 6 months leading up to my 2week liquid pre-op diet. My liver was pink, and normal. The RD told me that using that kind of diet as a tool is very good for getting rid of fatty liver. I tried to keep carbs below 30 total per day and tried to hit my Protein goal without going over of 74g. For you it would probably be 80-90g. Too much protein will turn into glucose at about a 50% conversion ratio.

Hey so this almost happened to me but for a different reason. I went in for a bypass and I was signing the consent for, literally right before surgery the consent for surgery stated "gastric sleeve operation". Had I not caught that mistake I would've came out with a sleeve!

Whoa, that was a pretty close call! The admin person in my surgeon's office who scheduled the surgery had me down for a sleeve as well. At my next meeting with the surgeon, she said, "So, we are doing a sleeve on you!" Fortunately, I was able to get it straightened out before we were in the operating room.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
