My new Journey!

Recommended Posts

  • My journey to lose weight started when I was in my early 20s. I battled with my weight for some time. It’s been a long and hard journey for me. tried herbal life to assist me in losing weight initially but I regained weight all over again. I started weight management in 2016. Although I was dedicated to the program, I was surrounded by many distractions. This gave me second thoughts and I ended up leaving the program. After rejoining the program, I was fully focused for a while but at the last minute I was in a crisis situation which ultimately led me to leave New York. I was so upset because I came so far ahead and I was just waiting on my surgery date. I now reside in PA and I’m fulling dedicated to my weight journey once more. I am happy to say I have completed all my tests along my present journey. I lost 16 pounds and expect to lose more as time goes on. My main reason for undergoing this Gastric bypass surgery is to further help me with my weight loss. I would be able to peruse my studies and return to work again free of aches and pains. I also know I’m gonna be taking less or no medicine which is a life I’m looking forward to.

Welcome Cita - do you have a surgery date yet? Or still going through the approval process?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
