FancyChristine15 810 Posted January 30, 2019 UGH! I'm SOOOOOOOO annoyed right now. Like the title says, this has nothing to do with weight loss....just fyi. So, I'm in a musical right now, and we've only got 7 rehearsals left until we open, so we're getting down to the wire. Well, it's the directors job to give us....well.....direction, and I (most of the time) happily accept direction from him, as that's what he's there to do. Well, our stage manager seems to think that it's also her job to give us notes and tell us how to sing and how to walk and talk, etc. It's not her job though. I've been a stage manager before, and your job is to help the director in whatever they need, but not to give the actors contradicting directions that the director is giving, which is what she's doing. I've worked with this woman in many shows and performances, so this isn't our first gig together. Well, last night, I had enough. I finally took the director to the side and explained my frustrations. I just don't think that anything will come of me talking to him. I don't want to blow up at her, but it feels like that's where we're headed....ugh! As an actor, I can't have one person telling me do this and the other person telling me do that... it's too much to try to focus on that, get my lines down, make sure I'm singing the right notes, doing the right dance moves, the right blocking, etc.... UGH! 2 5 GreenTealael, Frustr8, rs and 4 others reacted to this
Orchids&Dragons 9,047 Posted January 30, 2019 You did the right thing. The director needs to k of if someone else is giving contradictory direction. Good luck and break a leg! (Is that still said in theaters?) 2 1 FancyChristine15, GreenTealael and rs reacted to this
Jazzy1125 1,010 Posted January 30, 2019 I agree, you did the right thing. The worst thing on earth is to get conflicting directions from those who are in charge and those who think they are in charge. It happens all too often. The left hand doesnt know what the right hand is doing. 4 1 rs, FancyChristine15, GreenTealael and 2 others reacted to this

justmetj 421 Posted February 6, 2019 You can also politely tell her that you are taking direction from the director and if she has any problems with his directing that she'll have to confront him about it. Then it's between him and her.
