Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

While in the hospital, I decided not to focus on discomfort but meeting people and asking:

Recommended Posts

Medical professionals : why do you do the work you do? Why did choose to work with Bariatric patients?

OMGOSH, the responses have been amazing. From family and personal experiences you learn so much.

I met nurse, who attended an Ivy League school, who has been practicing for two years and loves work with people. On two occasions, she grew her hair and donated the hair to organizations that make wigs for children.

So, I challenge you in the midst of your discomfort, to focus on people around you - so they see understand that Bariatric patients are individuals who want to live, love, dance in the rain, and focusing on this experience to share with others.

Man, could we focus on the bad things but I am focusing on the great things awaiting me on the other side!

Thank you Lord!

I wish I thought of this, it's a Super Cool idea. We want to be treated as an individual, not just one of a herd, why not extend the same courtesy to our Caregivers in Bariatrics? Your girls are going to grow up exceptional with you as a Mama training them! God Bless you and them.😇👼

I was blessed to have a recovery room nurse that shared her before/after WLS photos with me, she'd lost 109 pounds and she kept me preoccupied from feeling nauseous and sick while recovering from the surgery.

That is amazing! Such a great reminder and motivation early in the recovery process.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
