I know that smoking is a no-no post-WLS, but I don't know about vaping. Here's an article listing reasons why you're supposed to quit vaping after surgery. https://www.beautysmoothie.com/why-do-you-need-to-stop-vaping-after-surgery/

Nicotine use can increase the risk of ulcers post-surgery. Immediately after surgery, nicotine is vasoconstrictor and can delay or impact healing due to reducing the circulation and amount of oxygen that gets to wound sites via your blood.

Quitting smoking is the best thing I ever did for my health. It even ranks higher than my weight loss surgery.

I quit smoking to get this surgery! I had to be smoke free for 30 days for my surgeon to even allow me to participate. 3 days after I decided to get the surgery I quit and never looked back. There is no way I am going back now! I am 4 months smoke free and almost 3 months post op!

And I am very proud of you all, late hubby tried, but kept going back, he didn't die of lung cancer but his Daddy did, still kept on smoking after that. Nicotine was a worse mistress than me, he just tuned me out when I nagged him about it

The thing is, not everyone who smokes will get lung cancer, but nearly everyone who smokes will eventually get copd, emphysema, and other breathing related illnesses.

I wish they didn’t focus so much on lung cancer risk and focused more on the “you’re basically guaranteed to choke yourself to death slowly” part of things.

I quit smoking cigarettes many years ago. Then a couple years later picked up vaping. I vaped with nicotine for at least two years and then went to vape w/o nicotine for almost a year. I quit vape to have surgery. Now that I've put the vape down, I don't want to go back. My lungs are clearer, and I feel healthier without it.

My advise is, if you've already stopped smoking or vaping, don't go back to it. It really is a crutch in any form and something that your body doesn't need. I thought non nicotine vape would be easy to give up, but it was ruff, you get in the habit of having it. 😕

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
