I was banded 2 weeks ago and feel little resriction now. I can eat anything soft with no adverse effects. I'm gaining weight. I think the issue is I need a fill. Just a little scared. :paranoid

Also, what stage of foods are you in, you should be making a slow transition from liquids(clear) to full liquids(soups) to mushies ) ie.. yogart, mash potates ( to softs -scrambled eggs.. to regular food....

My first fill hurt like a bitch. And I have a high pain tolerance. It was somethign about the lidocaine - just keep feeling it sting deeper and deeper...

2nd fill I said none of that crap, just jab me.

No more pain. :)

My first fill hurt really bad. She gave me the lidocaine but I don't think she gave me enough because it stung sooo bad....

I have an appt Thursday, and hopefully another fill. Just hope it's not as bad as the first.

After I requested no numbing, my surgeon started withholding it from everyone unless it was requested. It came up at a support group mtg, and I think only like two of the ppl there were requesting it. Most everyone agreed that the no numbing hurt worse, and was all around easier - quicker, fewer needles/pokes to provoke the anxiety, etc.

It's not for everyone, but my general advice is to try it once without the numbing. For me, it really is less remarkable than the poke for getting blood drawn.

Hi Nick,

I had my first fill a couple of days ago (3 weeks post-op here in Australia) - it was virtually painless. Hope yours is too!

Good luck,

Jenny

I havent had any Lidocaine with my 2 fills. My dr just cleans the area w/ alcohol and boom, its in. The second one, I was waiting for the needle and she said it was already inserted. Gotta love these good doctors :):D:D

I was done in June and the first few weeks were terrible. I was still hungry no matter how much Protein Shakes I drank! Ur right once u get a fill u will be much better off. For me what worked was having 2-4 ounces of cream Soup instead of broth. Its not fatting and it fills u up faster. U just have to strain the chicken or brocolli, what kind u get. Make sure u strain it though. Good luck it gets better.

I am sorry to answer ur question no it doesnt hurt. I dont know what kinda doctors some of these people went to. I feel sorry for u. The needle felt like a pinch, less than a vaccination or flu shot. Then u feel nothing. Its over before u know it. I am going today for my 3td fill. I am up to 7 I now.

Not trying to scare you but I have only had one fill and it hurt like h*ll. It may be because I have lots and lots of stomach fat. That is where I carry the big portion of fat. I don't know but it felt really deep and like he was going through a thick piece of leather. There may be quite a bit of scar tissue there. I am not sure but it does make me apprehensive for another fill but I will definetly have it done.

Just had my first fill this morning at 6 weeks post-op. It was really uneventful - small lidocaine stick and my surgeon had no trouble finding my port.

One thing I found interesting - UCSF is a teaching hospital, and there were 3 third-year med students observing. Dr. Campos menitoned to the students that methylene blue was used in the port as a marker. Thought that was interesting.

I had my 1st fill 1 week ago and I didn't feel a thing. I was standing and the needle was sticking in me while they did the flouroscope(xray), no lidocaine or anything. I thought it went great! I worried for no reason.

Well I have good news and Bad. I have had 2 fills. They really couldnt find my port the first time. I got 3 numbing shots, 3 pokes with a little needle and 2 with a big needle. So I basically was a pin cushion. But the good news was I felt the first little sting for the numb stuff, And a few pokes when she got too deep but I wasnt traumatized or anything. Got another fill last Monday and still hard to locate, 1 numb shot, didnt get it numb enough, felt needle, didnt like that. Requested 2nd numb shot. Another poke with small needle and then 1 with big needle. So I cant really agree with the no-numb people. I really preferred it myself. My port was just deep and I hadnt lost enough weight yet. So dont worry about that happening to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
