Hello there,

I had my RNY on the 23rd and was discharged yesterday so I've been home a full 24 hours. liquids are going down fine, minimal nausea, though the thought of chewing real foods again makes me tired. I SEVERELY underestimated how much pain I'd be in but it's manageable. I had a hiatal hernia repaired and my gallbladder removed so those are sources of pain as well.

My primary issue? Gas.

I've never wanted to pass gas so much in my life. It's also a sentence I never thought I'd type but here I am. I was told by my nurse not to be surprised if I didn't have a bowel movement until this weekend and I honestly wanted to cry. I've been walking and it does help it move the gas but it's moving up and not out. I was also told that milk of magnesia may help but I feel like that is a last resort. Any suggestions?

I just wanna fart.< /p>

Hi fellow Texan. I just had my sleeve done on the 23rd and I'm feeling the gas just like you. It's really made this whole ordeal much worse. The only relief I was able to get was laying on my side (which hurt) and pulling my legs up to my chest. I was able to pass quite a bit of gas that way. But it just keeps coming back. Constant gurgling and the pain and pressure from the gas is lower down towards my pelvic area. Uncomfortable!

I was worried about sleeping on my side because I thought I'd pull something but I'm willing to try anything at this point. I'm learning that broth helps the gas move, fingers crossed that it decides to move out.

Day 4 post-op for the win! I finally passed gas. No bowel movement but I'm not too worried about that right now. Going to start Protein Shakes today and I'll see how that gets my bowels rolling. Still very sore across my upper abdomen but it's gotten better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
