End of my pre op, now the waiting begins. Insurance approved or denied!?

Recommended Posts

I am at the end of my pre op requirements. I did 6 months of a supervised diet, a psych eval. Saw a nutritionist and spoke with a exercise physiologist. My weight loss center has sent over my information to my insurance today and I am a nervous wreck !! How long did it take everyone else to hear back from BCBS ? What were some of your requirements ?

My insurance requirements are minimal. I have to pass a psych eval (done) see a exercise therapist (scheduled) and a dietician (scheduled) then follow up once with each of them two weeks after my first initial appt with them (already scheduled) then I'm ready to submit! That is all my insurance requires. No weigh-ins or supervised visits/diets etc. From my first appt with my surgeon to my surgery date should be approx 3 months.

There are so many branches of BCBS it’s hard to tell. But mine came back in less than 24 hours. Hopefully you don’t have to wait long!

I am hoping your insurance experiance is better then me.

I have BCBS too out of Illinois. They denied my first claim in Sept, and my appeal in November.. I had to appeal to the state and they over turned the verdict In January.
It took 5 months, and I was nervous wreck, but everything is over no more hoops to jump through.

Oh my goodness. I'm sorry you had to go through so much hassle. I am trying to stay positive but it's so hard to tell what the insurance will do ! [emoji4] [emoji4]

I've read that everyones BCBS is a little different. I'm in Ohio and I haven't read much about approval time here yet. I'll try not to get too anxious about it hahaha

I was required to do a 6 month supervised diet, psych eval, and PCP clearance. Once they received my paperwork (this took 3 days), I was approved in a day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
