Recommended Posts

Any UK people , I'm undecided on sleeve or bypass got pre op April I'm so scared of making wrong choice , my heart says go with sleeve but the gerd I've heard can be very bad , I like that my insides will work the same but stomach will be smaller and I hope I can control maintain ok long term ,issue is I'm type 2 deibetic so bypass is what they suggest but bypass scares me more dumping , malnutrition, bowel blockages and just the fact my insides are changed and work differently , looking for experiences pros cons your choices how it's all going etc many thanks x

I'm not in the UK, but I too struggled with choosing between bypass and sleeve. I thought I wanted bypass because I didn't feel it was as "permanent" as cutting out half your stomach with the sleeve. It's reversible in a sense. But when I met with my psychiatrist and primary doctor, they both suggested sleeve for me instead because they felt that bypass was too "radical" and complicated and a much bigger deal surgery-wise. That's how I ended up changing my mind and choosing sleeve. I'm six weeks post-op and very happy with my choice.

I am not in the UK. However I decided on the sleeve because the only issue was my weight. I did not have any other co morbidity to deal with. What i was told by my Surgeon is: if there are other co morbidites then the bypass is the way to go as it will address the other issues as well. Good luck on your decision.

The bypass is working great for me. Lost 100lbs (over 7 stone) in 6 months. I've never experienced dumping and my bowels are more efficient than ever. As for the malnutrition, it would take months to reach any significant levels of malnutrition. I take my Vitamins when I remember (no need to stress out about missing a few pills here and there). Do the best you can, and the weight just "comes off". My high blood pressure, slightly rising blood glucose levels, borderline high cholesterol and other conditions disappeared almost immediately after surgery). I honestly don't recognize the person I once was anymore. I fit in "normal" size clothes.

Whichever surgery you choose, don't EVER worry that you picked the "wrong one". Both procedures have pros and cons and you'll do great on either choice. I can only speak about my success with the bypass.

Good luck to you.

I went with what my surgeon suggested. The gastric bypass has been around for over 50 years and he felt it was the best choice for long term success. He also sees a lot of people coming in for a revision from sleeve to bypass because they all of a sudden have an acid reflux problem that wasn't a problem before their VSG. As for malabsorption, it shouldn't be a problem if you get your Vitamins and Protein in as directed. Good luck with your choice!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
