Everything tastes furry - 9 days post op

Recommended Posts

I have been drinking with no issues now all of a sudden today everything I drink tastes dusty or furry or as though I have a hair stuck in my throat.

Any ideas what it may be and how to get rid of it?

It has to do with being in ketosis. It will pass after awhile. Make sure you're staying hydrated!

Also, check your throat and tongue for white Patches. I always get the same symptoms from thrush. Usually 'I get them from having to constantly use use inhalers and not rinsing right away. I get some rinses from my dentist (luckily who happens to be my mom) and it clears up in a couple days.

I don't think its thrush. My throat feels slightly swollen although its not sore so i'm guessing that could be to do with the breathing tube. My ears also feel like I have cotton wool stuffed in them!

It's not dehydration, I am drinking plenty.

Hmmm...Very well could be from irritation from the breathing tube. I would say keep an eye on it and if you don't feel better soon, make a quick trip to the doctor. Make sure it's not a little infection or anything. I hope it heals soon! Glad it's not thrush, I get it all the time and it's miserable!! Feel better! Looks like you're already half way to your goal...you go girl!!!

I would say this is worse than a hair caught in your teeth and I used to hate when that happened.

Spoke to my dr about the fact nothing tastes good.. I was told this is normal as the body has to heal and slowly get rid of the anesthesia... I finally can taste a few things. Hope all get your taste buds bsck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
