Surgery Tomorrow

Recommended Posts

My DH is being banded in the morning. I don't know about him, but I'm a nervous wreck. LOL I'm being banded on Monday. Hopefully, our son gets his approval this week. Our surgeon, said we are the first family he has ever done. LOL

Wow--that's awesome to be doing it together as a family. My husband is thinking about it also. We went to the initial seminar together. MY surgery was yesterday (11-13)--I think my DH wants to make sure that I do ok first before he commits to it. He's a big chicken!! I guess he figures that if I don't complain about it, then he might do ok. But then again--he's whiny when he gets sick and I'm not. And everytime I get sick he thinks he has it too. My Mom says that the only thing I've ever done that he hasn't is give birth--and he gained more weight than I did when I was pregnant. Too funny--but I think he might consider it if I do well with it. And so far so good... Good luck to everyone on their upcoming surgeries!!

Well, we are finally home from the hospital. I'm getting ready to head to bed. My DH came through the surgery without a hitch. Was up walking pretty quickly. He goes back in 3 weeks for his first fill. Mine is schuduled for the same day. His band will hold 14 cc. The doctor said mine will probably be the 11 cc band. Well, I'm heading to bed. I'm afraid I'm coming down with something. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
