Hi everybody,

I am new to this site and have a million questions. My first is, has anyone on here been diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)? I was diagnosed about 2 1/2 years ago and am having a lot of problems controlling my weight. My insulin resistance keeps getting worse and worse so I have seriously been considering getting the lap band done. I am just wondering if it possible that the lap band won't work on people with PCOS. I guess I am so used to medications, etc.. not working that it is hard for me to believe something actually will. I have an appt. with my pcp next week to look into this further but wanted to check on this board to see if anyone has PCOS and had the lap band procedure.

Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!! :)

OH MY GOSH AMY!!!! This is like such a coincedence!!! I just had a pap done 2 weeks ago and my testosteron level was elevated and I might just have PCOS!!! They Dr was very concerned cause I have gain 15 pounds in a 3 month time frame and it is also very hard for me to loose. I am hoping and praying that I dont have the pcos cause I want kids really bad!!! And so does my husband!! I am very concerned and worried. I don't know what to do. I feel like if I have the lap band surgery and loose this weight these issues will go away... NONE of these things started happening to me until I tipped the scale over 300!!! Did you start to grow body hair ... and I am constantly clearing my throat! I just want this all to end!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
