Pain following surgery

Recommended Posts

I had almost no pain at all, but people are all across the board when it comes to post-surgical pain. The fact you had hernia repair might be a factor, too...

I had no pain at all post-surgery and still none six weeks later. I guess I got lucky.

I had sleeve and hiatal hurnia procedures as well. I really didn't have any pain. I was off pain meds as soon as I came home from the hospital (2 days). I have never had any pain. It is so odd since I am such a big weenie. lol

6 days out. Still pain in stomach after eating or drinking but getting better. Stopped pain meds 48 hours after surgery. Walking and moving is a must!

I stopped all pain meds about 6-7 days post-op. I used my liquid hydrocodone until it ran out and then went to regular tylenol.

Warm liquids often work better than room temperature or cold things, don't know the trueness of my thought but I believe the darkness makes the knotted and brutalized muscles relax. That still works better for me at 5 months(nearly) out.

It's different for everyone. I was in extreme pain for the first 3 days, the moderate even with pain killers. I'm 2 weeks post op and I still have pain. Sometimes I fine, then I get sharp pains near my lower left incision. It helps when I massage the area and apply pressure. Good luck! I hope your pain doesn't last as long as mine.

It’s been 10 days since surgery and I have hardly no pain I would say 2 out of 10 and it’s just my right side, but finally started sleeping on that side, Monday I get my staples remove, anxious for them to come off

You had staples? Where? My incisions were stitched on the inside and then just taped on the outside.

mine too, I kind of expected sutures myself but I guess my guy doesn't use them. Gosh he is such a cool laid-back guy but I'm sure he is relentless on the tennis court!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
