Has anyone else experienced this my family can eat something or be eating something and it will make me so nauseous??? It’s horrible? Does it get better?

I have not had my surgery yet, but used to work in surgery and I was always told that the anesthesia makes people’s sense of smell real sensitive. It should go away with time.

It does get better but I definitely understand. My daughter was cooking with a lot of garlic after my surgery and I could smell it on her breath the next day. I was going crazy for almost two weeks, luckily I didn't experience any nausea but the smells were horrible..

Can totally relate. For me it wasn't so much food smells - it was my husband's breath! I could barely bring myself to kiss him, where he's never had bad breath before. I'm now 5 months out, and the excessively strong sense of smell is gone. Thank goodness!

Ding ding ding! This right here. My husband literally has a nickname related to his perfect smile and perma-fresh breath, but right after surgery he smelled so bad to me. I noticed it with the kids, too. Luckily it went away! I'm 3 months out now.

I actually experienced the opposite, I felt like my sense of smell deadened for about 3 weeks.

3 days post op. Before and after surgery my sense of smell is amazing. Husband came to bed after eating chocolate. Smelled him all night long. Divorce lawyer is now in speed dial.

I’m almost a month out, and it seems like everyone’s breath smells awful to me. Husband, kids, coworkers... I never thought this before surgery so I know it has to be related. I’m ready for it to subside.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
