Diet After Band Removal

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I just had my band removed on Friday (4 days ago) and my Dr told me to stay on Clear liquids the first week, but I could have Protein shakes and then thicker liquids the next. The third week I could start adding food to my diet.

For those of you who have had their band removed, how was your diet afterwards?

I'm asking this because I think my Dr is still trying to treat me like a WLS patient. I am so ready to start chewing some food...

I had my band removed about a month ago. I was given no special diet and could eat whatever I wanted right away.....my old stomach was back with no problems.

Oh my gosh, please don't tell me that!!!! I had a slippage so I wonder if that is why they put me on such a restricted diet? Did you have problems and that was the reason for the removal or did you just remove it because you wanted to?

HMM - maybe I'll start slowly introducing foods... just a thought.

I had my band removed on two days ago. I was on liquids, while in the hospital (23 hr obs), before I went home, I had cream of wheat and milk. Last night I had scrambled eggs with no problems. Because my incision sites are still tender, I'm associating that with what foods to eat (weird?), so I'll stick to soft foods until they start feeling better.

When I had my band removed, my surgeon told me to eat soft foods for 1 week and then back to normal. My surgeon had to do some repair work to my stomach with staples because I had some erotion with my slip....hence the soft foods for a week.

I didn't understand why my Dr. said liquids for 2 weeks. I went one week (almost ate a little at my work Thanksgiving lunch) but he told me to start eating again... adding things slowly.

I am proud to say that my band was removed last Friday, Nov. 9th and so far I am down 2lbs :).

I will not gain this weight back - I joined WW and counting points.

Good luck to everyone with their band removal!

I think the postop instructions have to be considered individual medical advice. Only your surgeon knows exactly what the state of your stomach was when the band was removed--he's been in there and looked around, and we haven't. If you have questions about the directions, ASK YOUR DOCTOR. There might be some very good medical reason he's telling you to to take it slowly.

When my band was removed (due to slippage) my doc said I could start introducing "real" food as soon as I felt up to it since, he said, there was no damage or any injury to my stomach. The way he put it it sounded like one thing was dependent on the other.

I had it taken out because I wanted it taken out, not because of any slippage---just because of personal intolerance to the restriction of food passage and PBing, even with it being unfilled for the last year and a half or greater.....

I had my band since 2007. I am going to have mine removed because I have so much Gastric reflux even on meds I have a hard time keep food and liquids down a lot of the time. I have had reflux in the middle of the night ,most nights after not eating doe 3-4 hrs before bed, and sleeping with my head up 45 degrees. Tired and run down ...no energy. Over the last month I developed Pneumonia due to aspiration and been on 2 sets of antibiotics. I and scared of esophageal cancer. I have a small Hyatial hernia that needs fixing too. I considered another procedure to keep my weight off but all my friends say NO..just watch it... I am 61 yrs old. I am also a retired RN. I know all the ins and outs ...but doing it is diff. Has anyone had theirs out and kept the wt off for more than a years????? Please respond...I am worried! Elaine

Had my band out on 9/21. Also had hernia repair and scar tissue causing my liver and stomach to fuse together removed. I'm on second week of soft diet until follow up visit. My esophagus has been fussy and my stomach crampy. Plus I have diarrhea. I'm guessing this is why he has me on this diet. I don't think I could tolerate solids quite yet.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
