Drinking alcohol again????

Recommended Posts

i do not. I have heard if you are not careful you can land in the hospital. The smallest amount can have grave effects on us as it goes directly into the blood stream.

No, I don't drink alcohol, but I didn't before getting the sleeve either.

Yes I started having cocktails again about 1 month post surgery. No issues. Was told that with the weight loss I would feel the effects of alcohol faster. I haven't found that to be the case. Since my stomach can't handle as much liquid I now order doubles.

I was told to avoid alcohol for a year. Also, if you haven't already been warned everyone should've been. We are at higher risk of becoming alcoholics after surgery than before and I have seen it where I work. It's one reason I didn't immediately choose to have the surgery. I've seen several persons with this problem at my place of employment. So, be careful and follow your medical team's advice.

I don't drink often, but when I do, it's hard liquor. Honestly, there are just fewer calories and carbs than in wine. I usually do vodka and Water and I add Mio flavoring to it; it's yummy!

Yeah, that's not true. It is processed through our stomach and intestines, not straight to the blood stream.

IME, alcohol does now affect me more, but I attribute it to being nearly half my previous weight, and not being able to pad my stomach with food before/while I drink.

I drank very rarely during most of my weight loss phase. I was working hard to get to goal, and didn't want to add additional empty calories.

I've had a glass of wine at a happy hour or at dinner with friends. I'm a fan of chilled white wine, sav. blanc or pinot gr. Nothing sweet but I think that's personal preference. The red doesn't settle well in my stomach, feels too heavy and thick for some reason. I would totally do vodka, if I like it- but I don't so my options are pretty limited.

I tried a glass of champagne on new years, the first carbonated drink I've had since my surgery (this past March) and it did not go well. I'll spare you the details but no, absolutely not- never again. lol

Am I the only sleever who gets on well with bubbles? They don't really bother me at all (although I choose not to drink fizzy pop now, because of the calories).

I've cut wine out on an every day basis, but if it's a special occasion, I'll have some Prosecco or a nice red.

I have no problem with bubbles in any form.

All the more Prosecco for us, eh? ;-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
