'Waving' gas pains in chest, upper back/shoulder pain, just miserable!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

Tonight I have been dealing with a new set of issues related to my recent sleeve surgery.. since about seven hours ago, I have been getting a considerable amount of gas like pains in the center of my chest that spread all the way to my left arm and shoulder and sometimes even my right. They are quite painful, and seem to come in waves if that makes any sense. I am also getting a great deal of pain between my shoulder blades and again around my left shoulder especially. Sometimes the pain even reaches up the side of my neck , and my left arm can sometimes feel heavy or weak. These pains are all similar to the gas pains that are felt post-surgery, however these at least seem to be unrelated.

Much of the pain is felt around my sternum or just beneath, especially, and they are quite scary especially since I have severe anxiety and a deathly fear of blood clots as well as the gastric leaks.

I will admit that I possibly overate or over drank earlier in the evening, but I don't know if this is related and if it would cause such considerable pain for this long after? I am also very frustrated right now as I can barely eat anything at all or drink anything. Drinking between meals is especially difficult, and I know that I'm not hitting my liquids or my Protein goals.

I guess my biggest concern here is, does this sound like a gastric leak? I know that it normally presents with a fever and usually extremely strong pain, however my pain is not that bad and comes and goes (overall). Or, should I consider that this is possibly blood clot related?

Or does it just seem normal? My mind is kind of going haywire right now with all the anxiety, and all the what ifs.. :(

Contact your team for urgent matters ❤

I agree. This could be nothing, or it could be something—the best way to find out is to contact someone on your team. Do you have someone from your office you can contact after hours? It'll put your mind at ease to talk with someone.

I'm waiting to contact them, their call times are in about three more hours sadly. There is no one that I can call after hours, though I can always go to the emergency room if absolutely necessary. I just hate this waiting before I can ask all the questions that I need to. default_sad.png&key=eede538cefacefd5b09bc3209f264a659ab0a07f9d0c9c28b43ddf136bc5059a

Write down a detailed list of symptoms so you are clear about exactly what is/is not happening. Sorry you have to wait.

If it's still happening, likely not related to just a singular food incident , *unless* you continued the pattern without stopping. (If you suspect/notice foods causing any issues stop immediately to assess, revert to prior food/clear stage for 12-24 hrs)

Not a physician & this forum cannot replace sound Medical Care; if it worsens even minutely I would call emergent care to see if you should be seen

Get well soon 🎈

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
