Bariatric clothing exchanges in DC?

Recommended Posts

Hey all, so the Marie Kondo phenomenon combined with a lot of people having involuntary time off with the shutdown has led the local charity shops to be so overrun with donations that many aren't accepting more donations right now. I have a bunch of clothes I'd like to get out of my house, but my surgical group doesn't have a clothing exchange. I figure this is a long shot, but anyone know of a good bariatric clothing exchange in DC or close-in suburbs?

And, apropos of nothing, I knew I'd need to get rid of clothing, but I also have a lot of kitchenware that I won't use anymore to donate - rice cooker, an enormous pan that I'll never be able to use again, canisters for flour/sugar, ice cream maker, etc. It just never occurred to me that this would lead to superfluous stuff in my kitchen (after my food clean out).

Check the Maryland suburbs, ivseem to recall someone in Prince George's County mentioning one a while back, hope she might still be active. Maybe St Vincent Dr Paul or another church- based thrift store could be grateful for them. All else fails Volunteers of America, Salvation Army or Goodwill although I wish they could go to a Bariatric sister in need.

Thanks, I'll check. And most of the places like these are not currently accepting donations in the DC area. Many feds are taking the involuntary time off to clean out their houses. So the charities are full.

Stouffers in Cleveland has been helping the people off from Lewis Space Center, quite a few beaty schools and barber's are giving haircuts and make-overs for free to keep up the morale but the food banks are having trouble keeping up with demands. How long can this go on? People are on furlough that never were before. Hope this doesn't bring a recession or similar!

Check on Facebook for clothing swaps for bariatric patients.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
