Lap-Band Support group

Hi, my name is Lorna. I live in Sparks and I am going through the hoops to get approved. I am attending the Support Group tonight and then I am seeing the nutritionist at UNR on Monday. I have heard that HHP makes it pretty difficult to get approval for this procedure but I am hoping I have all my ducks in a row when the paperwork is submitted. I am very excited about this procedure and I am hoping to be close to my goal by next May when my husband and I go on a cruise for our 25th anniversary. I have enjoyed reading all your messages.

hi lorna i live in sun valley i also have hhp when it was submitted to my ins they approved in 1day .what took so long for me i finished everything that western surgical wanted me to submit to them before they would submit to my ins it took western surgical 7weeks for there authorzation dept to send to hhp and hhp turning around in one day approving the surgery since then i just recentley just had my surgery on 07/20/05 and doing well

I am hoping that within the next couple of weeks my paperwork will be sent in. I have my upper GI tomorrow and I am hoping that this is it. I also would like to get down to 140, which means I have about 80 pounds to lose. I am so looking forward to this surgery. I don't remember the last time that I actually felt comfortable. :D

Just wondering if anyone has found a fill doc here in Vegas, and if so... how much are they charging, etc? Thanks for your help!

I am so excited, my paperwork was sent in for authorization yesterday. I am hoping to be approved within the next week. I have 2 insurances, HHP as primary and St Mary's as secondary. Does anyone know if I can schedule my surgery before my secondary approves? I know if they don't approve, I will be paying the difference.

Well, I have been approved, my surgery date is 11/2/05. I can't wait. One question I have is was it difficult to do the liquid diet the 2 weeks before surgery? I wouldn't need the surgery if I could go on a liquid diet for 2 weeks.

I just returned from my first fill. It was with Dr. Green in the Radiology Department at Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah. LOVED him! The fill cost $100 cash to Dr. Green plus just under $160 to Mountain View. If I lived in Las Vegas, I'd definitely consider going to him.

Thanks for the updated info.. I really appreciate it, as going to TJ might be a bit of a struggle with my work schedules. Did your doc use the fluro? Do you have any idea how far of a drive from here to there (I'm directionally challenged - hehe).

Thanks again. :)

Ooh, it's a six-hour drive. LOL, sorry about that. It's actually a shorter drive to the TJ/Mexican border from Las Vegas than it is to drive to Payson, Utah. I always think everything "over there" is close. I guess I was so happy with my fill (4 ccs) that I got carried away.

would any lap-band pre-op and post-op in Reno area be interested in a monthly support group for just lap band?

just curious

Hi, I was just banded Nov. 10 in Mexico. I live in Reno, NV. I think it would be great to have someone to share this with.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
