Liquid Diet Rant

Recommended Posts

Warning this rant is a little TMI. lol Weds I started my monthly flow and I started my liquid diet today also pre-admission testing today as well. I have 13 more days to go for my pre-op diet. I told my best friend to do a wellness check on my husband this weekend. lmao It's coming to the end of the day and my stomach wont stop gurgling. Its a loud gurgle sound too. It started happening about 5pm. I've had some looks from people because of how loud it was. haha I've had 4 Protein Shakes, 2 jell-o cups, 2 servings of broth and 50oz of Water. My next Protein Shake isn't for another 1hour and I still have 2 more cups of water to drink. I don't have any food cravings but my stomach says feed me!!!! lol I've had the poos all day with a nasty headache. Just keep telling myself that tomorrow will be better and the day after will be better and the day after that will be better. haha Just feel like crawling into bed and waiting for Feb 1st to get here already.

I started my diet today also and feel any minute I could snap on someone! This is pretty awful but I keep thinking it will get better after a few days.....I know this is the best thing for me and I am trying to keep my eye on the prize. It is very hard. I was a soda drinker and honestly I could care less about the food but I would love a cold pepsi. Good luck. I feel your pain. We can do it!!!!!!

OMG sounds like you want to chew something real bad, even if it's your own arm. Maybe we should get a collection up, but you a teeshirt, logo would read "Dangerous when Peeved or Hungry" LOL but it will get better when your diet progresses through the stages.😛

FYI I wasn’t perfect on the pre op 2 week diet. I did Protein Shakes during the day and then had a little Protein and veg for dinner. My liver was just fine for surgery. I was pretty good the 2 days before surgery and certainly all liquids the day before. Doc said i had a done a good job but also i had a BMI of 34 starting. Just sayin..

I'm on day 3 of my carb free, high Protein diet. Its definitely not fun, but I look at it as, Its going to be my new normal. I need to adjust sometime. My surgery date is Jan. 31st. So we can do this together.

On day 7 of my liquid diet with 7 more days to go and I've lost 15 lbs so far just being on the diet. I'm really excited about the weight loss. I haven't cheated on my diet. I've stuck to 5 Protein Shakes, 64 oz of Water, 2 Jell-O cups and 2 bowls of broth. But I'm so ready for Feb 1st to get here.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
