4 week PO stall.

Recommended Posts

Hey ya'll, I am almost 4 weeks PO and I'm dwn 27 lbs but I have hit a stall and trying not to get worried but we know that's hard. How long will the stall usually last? I have been eating lesser, but drinking more Water. Especially since starting back to school and work. I started bck walking today on my lunch break, so hopefully this stall will move that scale and ruler for that matter.

Same here. My dietitian said it was normal. I lost weeks 1-3, then stalled weeks 4 and 5. I had surgery 12/11, a week before you did. The scale is just now starting to move again at 5 1/2 weeks. I was worried something was wrong, but it's just my body adjusting to the surgery and now starting on food again.

I just had my one month checkup. I’ve lost 28 pounds but about 10 was pre-surgery. I was consuming no more than 800 calories a day, with 90-100 grams of Protein a day. I drink plenty of Water. Dr told me to up my calories to 1000-1200.

First off, stalls are totally normal. You just lost 27 pounds--you're body needs time to adjust. It's normal for your weight loss to take a one week pause along the way (sometimes even longer). Also, don't cut back on your calories. Stick to your diet plan--even with the stall. Remember, this isn't a calorie counting diet. It's a healthy eating diet, provided you hit your Protein goals and drink your water!!! You don't want to eat too little or you'll have issues with your metabolism. When you hit a stall it may sometimes help to eat more calories--in the form of health fats (avocado, extra-virgin olive oil, Ghee etc.) and good Proteins. Stay away from carbs if you can--they are the devil's food!!!

Thanks for this info Steve, will continue to walk hopefully run this weekend I'm off and try to eat a little bit more than I have been. I said I wanted to start eating 6 small meals in stead of the 3 that I am currently doing. ☺

Thank you for this. I was getting very worried myself. I’m 4weeks post op and my weight is exactly the same as it was during my post-op checkup despite only eating 6 ounces of food a day, 2 Protein Shakes and my Water. I’m never hungry enough to snack so I know my calorie intake is fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
