notmyname 593 Posted January 17, 2019 Call the doc - I'm about 2.5 months from surgery and have reflux. They gave me a second med for the reflux and it has helped. They may be able to change your meds or give you something else. He did say that just because I have reflux now, doeesn't mean it is forever. Good luck! 1 quana711 reacted to this
S@ssen@ch 745 Posted January 17, 2019 I started with mild reflux at 6 weeks. It seemed to get better with nexium, but I still get flare ups every now and then. Call your doc. I agree that it could get better with medication changes or simply because you lost weight, but reflux isn't something to play "wait and see". Make sure you're letting your doctor's know and be persistent until you get relief. 1 quana711 reacted to this
Lucas 7 Posted January 17, 2019 I too experience it now where as pre-op it was not an issue. I am just under 6 months post op. The reflux is very dependent on what is on my plate but some remedies I found helpful are, eating my meal with a side of pickled ginger, drinking hot Water with ginger root in it roughly 45 mins after a meal, and eating a couple bites of a banana at the end of a meal help calm things down as well. 1 quana711 reacted to this
SteveT74 360 Posted January 17, 2019 I had reflux starting around 2 weeks after surgery. It presented as a persistent sore throat that lasted over two weeks. I thought I was just getting a cold and then thought it might be strep. Turned out to be GERD. I was taking pepcid, but that wasn't getting the job done. My surgeon gave me a prescription for protonix and the sore throat was gone within 48 hours. As for preventative advice, give yourself two hours between your last meal and bed time. Also, drinking 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar mixed with 8oz of Water seems to help a lot too. 2 Frustr8 and quana711 reacted to this
berry girl 2 Posted September 27, 2019 For a couple of years now there have been reports of the danger of heartburn drugs/PPI blockers like zantac that are commonly used to help with the side effects of gastric surgery. Today Canada officially recalled these drugs due to their link to cancer. Personally, I am completely dependent on these drugs due to the acid reflux side effect of my gastric sleeve. If you use these prescriptions daily, I strongly urge you to contact your doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. https://healthycanadians.gc.ca/recall-alert-rappel-avis/hc-sc/2019/70989a-eng.php?utm_source=hs_email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=77363999&_hsenc=p2ANqtz-8zLyVDfQD8I8hCu3-XeY7Fh97rFTkpD6v27F37TI29RzLKaNdKiDz_TiM1BKOzRo_NfiS6IqmuYpTuPc_HRfMUlmpaxA&_hsmi=77363999 image-0.00596046447753906.jpg
