Hi everyone! I hope this message finds everyone well, So I’m starting my liquid diet tomorrow for my surgery next week! I’m super excited and very nervous at the same time. I been waiting for this moment for over 6 months. First thing first my stats I’m 5’5 and weigh 268 and unfortunately due to my weight I have some health complications. So my main reason for this VSG surgery is to become more healthy so I can live a healthy lifestyle not only for myself but for my family. Anyone one else getting surgery next week? And any advice from anyone on how you managed your nerves that has already had VSG would be great. Thanks in advance 💕

I'd be worried if you didn't have the jitters. Someone the other day on this forum talked about embarking on a laundry marathon and watching the holy crap out of Netflix. Those are just examples. Is there a hobby or something you like that you'd enjoy focusing on for a few days? You could always spend your time creating a LIST of things you'd do if you could.😀 Journal a bit. Put your jittery words on paper so later you can ask yourself, "Why was I so dang nervous. That was a piece of cake!".

One super important thing. Don't forget to take a good BEFORE picture of yourself during this pre-surgery time. You'll be grateful to yourself later. Cheese!

Start a Journal! Although I have been lax about it lately as i have been really busy. For weeks before my surgery up to about a month after i wrote everything in a journal. It helped me express my feelings, worries and successes through each day both pre op and post op. I also have a weight loss thermometer next to my desk on the wall, where every Monday i come to work and update it from the week before.. ( in different pretty colors LOL). It has really helped me see where i was to where i am going. ALso the before and after pics are great idea!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
