Goal weight questions

I been reading a lot of threads and BMI is the big determining factor in a lot of peoples idea weight. Is there anything elso out there that we should take into concideration when picking a number. I feel as though I am picking a number and hoping I look good when I get there. I see that there are a big number of people that pick 150 as their target. I think that is a wonderful goal. I was that at 14, can I expect to get below that at 30? I want to go less then 150 but my adult weight has never been less then 190 and I am getting close to that... Any wisdom?

Honestly, my advice would be to stay away from a number. Numbers are arbitrary, especially since so many people here have been overweight their entire lives. Maybe the last time they were at whatever size was when they were 7.

I have often told my husband that I could weigh 300 pounds, but if I weighed 300 and wore a size 12, I wouldn't care.

That said, I HAD a goal weight based on the adult weight that I was last comfortable with my body. But I quit thinking of it in those terms. I ertainly don't need to set myself up for disappointment, and something like "happy when I look in the mirror" or "X size" is enough to satiate the goal-oriented side of me. If I feel healthy and am happy with myself at a higher weight, I will be ok. If I'm not happy at that weight and want to keep going, I will keep trying to go down.

Of course you can, dont understimate what you can do with enough determination.

But a number doesnt mean much, to me, getting to a normal BMI was very important, I didnt have surgery to remain overweight. But I had NO idea where I would choose to stop and to be honest, despite having a pic of me in a bikini on my avatar, that is one helluva lucky photo, and I've still got considerable work I think I need to do. I never for an instant considered that I would be shooting for a BMI of say 20, but I think my build is such that I need to be very thin to not be lumpy. But I didnt know that till I got somewhere in the general vicinity, you know?

I reckon shoot for the top of your healthy weight range first, fine tune later.

There seems to be a bunch of different opinions on this. I am a person who needs an absolute goal to work towards achieving in order to maintain a proper regime. I have no idea if I will need to tweak my weight number down the road either way and right now it doesn't matter because I have a ways to go before I get there. I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, working towards that number I've chosen (which is right in the middle of my healthy weight range) is working for me and that's key. Find out what works for you and DO IT!!!! Good luck in whatever you choose.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
