I keep getting this pain in my diaphragm intermittently. It happens when I drink too fast and will go away in a couple of seconds. However, tonight I am laying down and it’s just happening randomly and I haven’t been drinking anything for the last hour or two. It’s happening every couple of minutes or so. Is this normal? Sorry I’m a worry wart and want to make sure it’s nothing crazy or serious post op complication.

I have a slight pain too that kind of rolls, but like you said it only lasts a couple of seconds and is gone. I'm assuming it's air when I drink or eat getting down into my stomach. I'm 4 weeks post-op and I'm still getting it.

Yeah this isn’t even necessarily when drinking. I am getting it when just laying down on my side. It’s weird.

I had the exact same thing that came on randomly for about the first week post op. I think it is normal and a result of all the air they pump into you to lift the abdominal wall off your stomach during surgery. Try to walk as much as possible and drink slowly. I also found having lukewarm fluids was easier. Try not to worry but certainly call your surgeon if things get worse (fever, vomiting).

Hi I had surgery the same day as you.
Have you been walking? Maybe that would help. I feel that helps me.

I’ve been walking but could probably do more. It’s just weird. If I feel it coming on and put my arms up over my head it stops it. Totally bizarre....

You know what’s even weirder.....I put my abdominal compression garment on and it hasn’t happened since. Is this gas?

Maybe and the compression helped your body rid it without it gathering in a large ball under your diaphragm. Sounds kinda weird, but bottom line IT WORKED!

NO I spoke to soon. It helped for a bit then came back. I called the doc today to see and he said it’s a diaphram spasm probably from the surgery and the protractor etc. said it’ll go away in time. Awww well lol

Thank you. I was looking at getting it. Thought it may help. If I order now, I'll have it for after surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
