Did you have to share a room in the hospital?

Recommended Posts

Lord deliver us all from Helga the She-Devil and all her ilk! And Hurray for private rooms where you can kick back and be YOU without worries. You may have nausea, you may have flatulence, you may even burp like a 10 year old boy, so nice not to have to apologize for your organ recitals and such.๐Ÿ˜๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿ˜

I was expecting to share a room, but was pleasantly surprised to have a room to myself! Plus, it was the bariatric floor, so there was tons of space and there was even a convertible couch type thing that my hubby could have slept on if he had wanted to stay the night with me.

If you can swing it I would pay the upcharge for a private room. I had my own and it was awesome not having the TV on and being able to pee when I needed to. There was a fold-out couch for my husband but he would have been my Helga-the-He-Devil because he is an extrovert and high energy and talks a lot! I loved my private time to recuperate and read. The only time I have ever had to share a room was when baby #2 arrived. They wanted me to share a labor room with a woman who brought her husband and nearly every relative she had with her. She shaved herself "downstairs" and left the mess all over the bathroom where I needed to go vomit constantly (I had a freakish vomity second childbirth, 1 and 3 were dry). I finally held my nurses wrist and my husband and told them to either get me out of there or I was going to go to another hospital (probably a bluff as I was vomiting and dehydrated) because no way was I laboring in that nut house. This was an upscale hospital with Laura Ashley birthing-freaking-suites that were all occupied. The nurse felt for me and moved me to a tiny single room with a single bed that had all of the hospital birthing equipment stored. There was a narrow path to the bed. I was grateful. People bopped in to get equipment but I dealt with it. Afterwards I had to share a room. The lady was fine but her husband was very sick and coughed non-stop as well as loads of visitors that had to walk past me so I couldn't wait to get out of there.

I did not have to share a room and that is honestly something that would have been a deciding factor for me as to which hospital Iโ€™d have the surgery done.

I have similar issues about vomit, and I did have to share a room, and yeah, she vomited. It was stressful but honestly I was so focused on my body that it I didnโ€™t react by fleeing from the room or having a panic attack. Bring headphones and music to drown out noise. There will be a curtain do you shouldnโ€™t have to see anything.

I did! My first roommateโ€™s husband was screaming to discharge her and left against medical advice.
My 2nd (just a few hours later) was another sleeve patient around my age. No complaints with her. We took turns chatting, throwing up, bugging the nurse for meds...ha. It all worked out.

Thankfully my hospital has all private rooms. No roommate and no vomit!

Well the hospital was full so I was able to get a small room in the recovery ward. It was really small but at least it had a door and when I was up all night long I wasnโ€™t disturbing anyone else. It was pretty quiet on that ward because people usually donโ€™t end up staying there so I practically had a nurse all to myself. I guess it kind of worked out

Hospital I stayed at had private room. Maybe you'll get lucky and no one will share the room with you?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
