Ask your bariatric program is they offers an information seminar. They will talk about all the different types of surgeries and discuss success rates, expected weight loss, complications, pros/cons and take peoples questions. Your Surgeon will have your medical history at your pre op appointment. He/she will suggest a surgery that may work best for you. Many surgeons don't do the band anymore. Check your office.

Four years out from surgery. I had great results with the sleeve. It was less invasive for me. ( my intestines are not altered) My height weight 254. I weighed 234 the day of surgery 2014. Hit my goal of 140 in six months. I now maintain in the 130's. Even if the weight loss was slower I would have been happy. We all lose at different rates.

Things to know about the sleeve:

After my sixth month, I can tolerate any food with no dumping syndrome. It's important to eat healthy and stay within my calories and macros. Going back to old behaviors I would gain weight back.

You have your best surgery restriction in the first few months. Months to a year out you will notice you can consume more food. The restriction is less (your stomach has not grown back to full size)It will be important for behavior change and not going over you calories and macros for weight loss and maintaining.

Most sleevers can tolerate sugar. Less change of dumping syndrome. If sugar is an issue, other types of surgery may be worth looking into.

I wish you the best,

Jenn

We all lose at different rates. Age, medical issues, body physiology, and medications can be factors. I would have been fine if I lost in in a year or more.

How?

I have the sleeve. I did not expect fast weight loss. I followed my surgeons plan. I logged my food, Hit my calories/macros and exercised.

Exercise Routine?

  • first months walking.
  • Third month I stalled and started a gym membership. I did elliptical and a bit of weight lifting 5/6 days a week. Increased intensity/resistance on cardio machines.
  • Fifth month Took a women's strength training class (It was a game changer) Took up distance running.

Had the sleeve. No regrets what so ever. I had it'll the surgery 7/23. Went to dr office at 238. Pre op weight was 221. Current weight 164.8
It's not a magic pill. You have to change your mentality. That has been challenging but seeing all these results encourages me to keep making lifestyle changes so I can keep this weight off permanently.
Good luck with what ever type you choose. It was life changing for me!!

Hey Lolo2020
The loss was quicker earlier on and has slowed down since. But I was losing anywhere from 2-4 pounds a week initially.
Take advantage of this honeymoon period where you're not "hungry" so you can make better choices. For me the hunger hasn't come bk yet so I'm tstill taking advantage of that by eating healthy. I do have my mega sweet tooth that gets me. Ex Skittles.
I also weigh every day bc it keeps me in check. But I know that maybe considered obsessive to some but it's what works for me.
You can do it. Just focus on the prize and reward your self w a new shirt or pants.
That has been very exciting for me...buying clothes. Hope I've helped. Let me know if you have any other questions I can help with.

Losing that much is great and I look so much better in clothes but geez naked not so much. At 44 your skin doesn't bounce bk and I haven't helped it much by not working out like I should. So if I were you try to do light weight training to build muscle so you do t become saggy. My "girls" are deflated and very very sad. BUT once I lose that last 30 pounds I'm going to give myself a goal of keeping it off for a year. So once I hit my goal weight I'll count 12 mos from then and if I keep it off and maintain (I WILL!!) then I'm treating myself to some new breasts!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
