🅺🅸🅼🅼🅸🅴🅺 296 Posted January 11, 2019 I'm pre-op but going ahead with taking my vites to get into the habit. I know D3 helps absorption of Calcium. I already have a bottle of D3 5000iu because I was told to take that dose last year after low amounts on bloodwork. My question is...Since my D3 is such a high dose, if I take the D3 in the morning once and my calcium 3 times a day, will I still have enough D3 in my system to support that last evening calcium dose? Or should I get another bottle of D3 in smaller doses to take each time I take the calcium?
sandee123 13 Posted January 11, 2019 Look at the info on the Calcium pills...there is usually Vitamin D in calcium pills. 1 sillykitty reacted to this
Ed_NW 684 Posted January 11, 2019 I had low Vitamin D before surgery as well. I started taking just the vitamin D3 supplements and then switched to the calcium citrate with D3 1200-1500 mg twice a day as directed by my Nut pre surgery. I take multi with Iron, B complex with 50mg of thiamine, and a probiotic when I wake up. I take the Calcium with D3 about noon and again about 5pm.
RickM 1,752 Posted January 11, 2019 Once a day is fine for D3, as as noted, many/most Calcium supplements include D as well (and some even the preferred D3). My wife takes 50,000iu D3 once or twice a week (or sometimes every other week, depending upon how the labs go) so it isn't as fussy on timing as the calcium and Iron is. 1 FluffyChix reacted to this

Right...I'm going to start the Bariatric Advantage calcium chews and they only have 500iu per chew...3 per day = only 1500iu. My Vitamin guide sheet says I need 3000-5000iu of D3 per day so I need 2000-3500iu more. I think I'll just buy a bottle of 3000iu, take it in the morning then just take the chews by themselves and hit close to the max iu per day requirement. Some may even take it daily for a while if they are trying to build their D levels back up, and then back off the frequency or dosage to maintain it. But it shows that the timing is not critical and we have some limited, at least, storage to work with. D (along with A, E and K) being an oil soluble tends to hang around in bodies longer than the other Water soluble Vitamins that tend to get flushed through more quickly. 1 Frustr8 reacted to this

I was JUST reading about fat soluble and Water soluble vitamins! It makes a ton of sense now. I’ve always had low Vitamin D because I hate going outside. My job is indoors and we practically work in the dark because were a bunch of introverted nerds who should probably just live in caves LOL For now, I’ve settled on 3,000iu of D3 in the morning with my other meds and taking the calcium chews alone during the day since they already have D3 👍🏼 I have labs in a couple months so if I need more, we can adjust it then.
