Loosing too much weight

Recommended Posts

Friends,

Have any of you experienced too much weight-loss? I started at 402 and 18 months later I'm 159. I was 184 just 6 weeks ago and that was perfect for me and my doctors. Has anyone else found themselves unable to stop dropping pounds?

Yes. I had this happen. I started at 248 surgery date. At 14 months I was at 130 and pretty comfortable. My surgeon predicted I would end at 124. I kept going past that and went to 113. I was eating my Protein and drinking my Water and making sure I got my exercise in. I tried seeing my nutritiinist who told me I needed to add calories and should start drinking Ensure. I did not do Ensure. At 17 months I picked up a pound and at 18 months I went to 116. I am holding firm at that weight. It will be 2 years in April. It just seemed that my body knew where it wanted to stop and did what it had to do to end healthy. Dont be afraid. You have done wonderful. Trust yourself. Your brain and body will work this out. Good Luck.

What is your success. You must be doing something right. Have you increased your calories a bit

I eat anything I want because after after 4 to 6 ounces, I'm done.

But you should know that I've had post-op complications. I got multiple infections, stomach leaked, 4 surgeries and so on and so on.

Hope you have healed and mended and are now enjoying your new life! Congrats on your dramatic losses!

Are you ounces by volume or weight? So you're talking 3/4cup to 1cup?

My surgeon and RD said the 1 cup maximum volume is for life. What you put into that 1cup depends on if you're gaining or losing or maintaining.

Looks like you are just barely in your normal range. I wouldn't worry, but would try to max out your nutrition at every meal so you are getting the most nutrient dense food you can get.

Thank you.

These charts are crap. If anything they show you what is too thin if you fit in their normal range. The real concern is that I dropped 25 pounds over the past 5-6 weeks. 18 months into this my weight should be stabilizing - maybe drop a pound a week and even seeing a few weeks where I gain a bit.

Have you seen any physicians about this issue yet? Are they concerned? Why do they think you’ve lost weight?recently?

I brought up my concern a few weeks back. I had just went below 170 at the time. Doctor wasn't overly concerned. Mention drinking a weight gain shake. He is supposed to call me after I notified his office yesterday what my weight had d5opped down too. Still waiting for that call.

Eat a little more, add more Protein to your meals, I down again to 116 lbs, my case is a little different with achalasia 3, it's hard for me, to maintain weight but I noticed just extra bits slowly helps even when not hungry. Best of luck

I’m 2 years out and haven’t had the complications u have had but I do what you do, i stabilised at 18 months at 8 half stone but then have started to fluctuate between that , I drop to 8 stone then slowly gain, then it happens again
I can drop 7kg in 2 weeks then it goes back on, like you I eat whatever I want, even bad things just trying to maintain is the hardest part
I drink gold top milk , each nutrient rich foods, meet my Water goals and Protein goals
It’s like my body can’t decide if it wants to be 8 stone or 8 and. A half
Lowest weight was 7 stone 8 pounds
I agree those charts are rubbish
My dietician has always been happy with my weight loss
I’m just gonna have to get used to being called skinny

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
