Things To Do During Recovery Period

Recommended Posts

i had taped a lot of shows ahead of time that i hadn't had time to watch: how to get away with murder, leathal weapon, etc. i also loved the marvelous mrs maisel on amamzon - first season is better than the second. if you want some brain candy - watch 90 day fiance - it's total garbage but it will get you hooked :)

I'm a planner so one thing I did was scour this site for recipes and ideas for the different food stages. Then I made up some menus for when I could start each stage. I get bored quickly with repetitive food choices so I wanted allll the ideas! Turns out this was critical for my sucess because I dealt with a lot of nausea and food aversions in weeks 3-6. It helped to just pivot to the next thing on the list rather than trying to repeat a "meal" that made me nauseous.

I also got my Instacart account set up for grocery delivery (lifting restrictions and stairs plus my hernia surgery)

I still had tons of opportunity for TV watching, relaxing, and walking. However, don't underestimate how much your world will be consumed with sipping liquids. I set a 15 min timer and did a shot (1oz) Water or Protein Drink whenever it beeped. I tell ya, it got my fluids in but I barely had time to pick my nose with that damn alarm going off!!! I could hear that beep in my dreams. Still can't use that particular ringer for anything to this day! 🤣😂🤣

I only had a week driving restriction - I cleaned closets and did some organizing I needed to do for a while . I did a lot of walking and planning for menus , etc . I got very bored and went back to work for a few hours a day - started spinning again 2 eeeks after surgery cuz I was walking 5 miles a day before . I feel great and have started doing some lite weights . I feel very good and back to normal

I am jealous that you can crochet! I have tried teaching myself several times and spent many hours, but I just can't get past the first row! :(

I taught myself.
The 2 books that helped the most were Better Homes and Gardens crochet 1,2,3 and then Stitch & b***h The Happy Hooker (LMAO).
BH&G had the better written instructions and S&B had the better pictures.

And if you are left handed, face someone and mirror what they are doing. Works for crochet and knitting both.

This is good advice that I need! I am terrible with prime - I have already set some money aside that I am saving in case something sparks my eye while I am bored at home lol

I've got Amazon Prime and I'm constantly ordering stuff with the free shipping to justify the cost of the membership. $5 here $10 there. I'm sure all of the package delivery people are like "really, this guy again?"... LOL

That's what they say about me at Bariatric Pal Store, see I use my accrued points and then pay for shipping, normally over $ 60 purchases ship free, but this is how the Store Mavens and I have worked things out, I had such a bunch of points accrued, comes from originating thteads, and weighing on everything interesting. Last time I ordered they asked " shall we ship it to ( insert street address)?, Yipes I AM INFAMOUS!

Don't Even have to post a sign " UPS- right back here", I am thinking of putting one up for FedEx, you see the front door, the one you can see from the street, belongs to the future upstairs apartment( due to be finished Spring 2019) our entrances are at the side and in the back. Thought I would put up sign " Please come. to other entrance" would you believe Wally World does not stock such a sign? Guess I will have to go to the hardware store downtown , in the meantime people pound on the door there, we have to go to the side one and yell " Back here Doofus!" See we can hear them because it's right next door to our living room but where there used to be a door into the hallway has a panel insert instead , kinda makes it like a focal wall highlight. I told Tomkitten maybe I will put numbers like 302-1/2 there, so deliveries know we are plain 302. Either that or "302 Deliveries- please use side door"

We have Hulu and I have some TV shows on reserve for binge watching. I find that helpful because with Prime and Netflix I'm searching endlessly for something I want to watch. I have actually never watched Modern Family so I'm going to hit that up and finish a few others. Im currently watching The Good Doctor, it's cheesy but interesting enough that I like watching it. Aside from TV and movies I will try to walk and do some easy cooking, perhaps some Instant Pot recipes. I have 2 teenagers who are perfectly capable of helping out so I dont anticipate that I'll be too stressed out having to get things done.

Do you people think Netflix is worth the hoopla? Spectrum keeps having adverts on our cable, haven't pushed the thing for a free trial membership, but is it worth the money outlay after that?

Good morning everyone! I apologize if this has been asked before, but this is my first time in the post-op section. Last week I received my surgery date, February 6th (woohoo!), so I thought that I would head over to this section and start reading some posts.

Anyway, this may be a weird question, but what did you guys do at home during your recovery period? I am planning to take about 3 weeks off at work and I am hoping that boredom won't get the best of me while I am at home! I know I will have to go for walks during the day. I bought a sudoku book and crossword book and also a couple puzzles to do, but i think that will only last me a few days. What did you guys do during your time off? Are there any recommendations for iPad apps or television shows to watch? I am just worried that I am going to be stuck at home by myself with nothing to do!

Netflix.

Novels.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
