Any of you develop extreme eye dryness??

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any of you developed dry eye and irritation after surgery? Not sure if it’s related at all. But mine have become truly bothersome. Just wondering.

I have been experiencing dry eye. I kind of wrote it off to a sinus infection I'm dealing with. It could be related to the surgery.

Are you getting all your liquids? I've had dry eye for years (unrelated to surgery) and when I get dehydrated, it gets worse.

I am a nurse practitioner and RNFA. Not sure how the surgery itself could be causing dry eye, but if it occurred immediately after surgery, it could be because your eyes weren't fully closed and sealed during the case. The anaesthetist usually will close your eyes, and tape them with their choice of adhesive. Otherwise the extremely dry and cold air of an OR could damage your eyes.

I could see how that could happen. I’m almost a month out though. Was just wondering if it may be due to a deficiency or something of that nature. I’m using PatchMD Patches.

Are you able to take capsules yet or consume small amounts of oil? Fish oil and flaxseed oil are good for dry eyes. Small amount of flaxseed oil can be added to Protein Shakes, yoghurts etc.

Eye drops that are preservative free are better for your eyes than the those that have preservatives, and will do fine if you can't take capsules or flaxseed oil.

If you end up with a dry mouth and nose too you may want to check with your doctor to check for health issues.

I take pills capsules just fine. I’ll try that. Yeah I’m going thru eye drops bottles like mad. I see my docs Tue for 4 week follow up. I’ll definitely be discussing this with them, though may be totally unrelated.

I was diagnosed with dry eye a year ago and yes, feel it more since surgery. Doctor recommended Refresh liquid Tears and as long as I use them 2-3 times a day I’m good.

Must run in my family because both my son and I have that, and he does use Refresh Eye Drops also.

No. But my skin has been WAY too dry. A problem I've never had. Thank God for shea butter!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
