Hi Gerard,

I was banded on May 28th as well. My surgeon was Dr Ortiz and I was very happy with him. No complications and a very easy recovery. I am thinking of using Dr Lavin for my fills, what is your experience with him?

Hi all from Louisiana!

I too am from the BR area and was banded on August 5, 2003 (Dr. Sanchez-Monterrey). I'm on solids now and really thinking I need a fill-I feel like I can eat any and everything already! I lost 13lbs in the first 2 weeks but nothing since. I know it's only been a month (or almost). At any rate, who will you be using for fills? My PCP will be doing mine - in Prairieville. I'm so excited about it because it will be close by. She' waiting for all of her xray stuff to come in. My sister was also banded on August 5, we did it together. We'll have to keep in touch (everyone from LA!!!). I've met another girl from P'ville who was banded 2 weeks after I and has the same PCP. (SMALL WORLD). My Dr. went to Monterrey to train with my doctor (Sanchez) to learn how to do the fills.

Dr. Lavin is excellent you will love if if you decide to use him for fills. Tom has the best bedside manners of any doctor I have ever dealt with. I have had a couple of fill with him with my orginal port. My port had to be replaced. The fills are painless and so was the port replacement.

Gerald, why did your port have to be replaced? If you don't mind me asking. I am pre-banded waiting for insurance reply. Are you having problems with your band? Good luck with everything.

My port was one of the earlier versions that had a connection that the manufacturer has had problems with. All the ports used after Sept of 2002 (Ithink?) are the new version. My port had come completly disconected and the fills would do no good. I still managed to loose over 120 lbs without a proper fill. The replacement was out patient and only took a couple of hours and I had little or no discomfort from it.

Hello everyone from Louisiana!! I was banded by Dr. Sanchez on August 17, 2003. I live in Prairieville (near Baton Rouge). I am getting a little discouraged now because I am gaining all the weight I lost the first couple of weeks I am eating like normal again..... I hope this is normal and my band has not slipped or something My doctor and her partner in Praireville went to Monterrey the same weekend I was there to get trained on doing fills. So if anyone is interested in getting her name and number just email me for the information. I here there is not many doctors out there doing fills at this time. Well hope to chat with some of you.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
